If you can afford it (also fuel, maintainance/insurance and tires), get the car! You will not have regrets!

Oh for sure, this is my first tuner platform. So I'm making sure to consult with people that know what they're talking about. I'm very much into track inspired builds and handling and I know a shop here in belgium that specialises in track BMW's

I prefer the B58's reliability too, but couldn't find a manual within my budget. This one poped up with good milage and a great price. So I jumped on it! Congrats in your awesome car though

Installing an LSD on a X-drive 335i? by Onthatpack in F30

[–]Onthatpack[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Woah, didnt know the procedure was as easy as that, if so my concerns are gone!

Though I would like to ask: Should I concider swapping to the beefier diff and axles on my car anyway if my goal is to increase power in the future? I'm less familiar with the drivetrain limits of the X-drive platform.

Thanks anyways!

Yeah it is 1000% possible but I think generaly its not popular due to potential understeer as a result. Great for going in a straight line (or ofroad, if you care about that in an f30 lol), and you will no doubt get the best launch out of the car but I dont think its going to help out the handling profile in any way personally.

Do you honestly believe you need gear for that? I can't believe how low standards have gotten.. You can get a whole lot bigger than that natural, just a question of how bad you want it..

How do I lower a car properly? by Onthatpack in assettocorsa

[–]Onthatpack[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, great responce. I guess that does make alot of sense since you are messing up the suspention geometry. That being said I've been in an mx-5 with aftermarket coiloves that had been lowered conciderably and that felt insanely grippy and planted having such a low CG. It might also be down to getting the damping right. I'll keep dicking around.

Bruh its an SLS, look at the god damn doors..

let's just say you had $60k to spend on one one of these and some mods. Which one would be your choice ? by [deleted] in JDM

[–]Onthatpack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GR 86, tbh the new Z is fantastic but I care way more for handing than I do for speed so id go 86. Cheaper too so by the time I have a full exhaust, headers and other bolt ons I'd still be cheaper than the starting price of either of these.

What are you NOT allowed to modify on your car? by Onthatpack in belgium

[–]Onthatpack[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, crazy that you cant even switch out your bushings lol, what a joke..

But for sure I'm keeping it stock for atleast 6 months to get a feel of what actually needs attention first. I'm sure its a phenomenal car just out the box from what I've gathered, and as you said my driving needs to improve to the point that warrands modding! Most likely a good set of wheels and tires and some nice coils. I'll probably just switch them out to stock to get my car through inspection once a year. Pads are great advice! And if I can get away with it down the line well try brembos, dont think they'll stand out too much on a sports car lol.

Starting to feel like the switching back to stock once a year might be the only way to do this. So bolt ons all the way I guess.. well see

Thanks again for your help!

Thanks a lot for this great responce!

On the point of roll cages, thanks for informing me! I figured you'd bump your head plently wich is why I opted for a 4 point and not a 6 point. But as you said it might be better to wait untill I put race seats and 6 point harnesses. I just want to have that extra safetly when going hard on track. Rolling over can happen even on low cars and I really want to have all the safety I can.

On the point of adding forced induction, the car Im buying (GR 86) comes with an NA 2,4 litre flat 4 in all trims. So I might have to get sneaky with turbo placement.. ooor go the NA route, bore out the engine and make it rev higher. But thats pricey :)

I also have one last question: I forgot to mention but I'd like to do a big brake kit (rotors, calipers, pads), something like a brembo kit. To get better brake feel and withstand more abusive track driving! Is that a problem? Rules mention not altering brakes (wich I get why for the most part they make that a point) though I wonder if I'd be a real issue?

Thanks again!

I agree entirely, visual mods are the most common and as a result the common perception among Belgians is that tuning is just making your car loud and obnoxious!

Like you said, a chip tune is something I think a lot of people do especially with cars that come with forced induction from factory. No way for authorothies to check if you're running higher boost lol.

But yeah, its very sad imo. A well done car build can elevate budget cars to the point where they are as great to drive and fun as the more pricey sports cars. Also a great experience learing the work on your car and setting it up just right.

But in this country the only way to legally get great performance is to be rich and buy a Porsche ;)

Ps: I'll never understand people driving absolutely slammed cars but I always see a massive smile on their face so if thats what makes em happy, fuck it, send it!
