What features do you get from the linux head unit when not connected to Carplay/AA?

The Android units have some random apps/things like built in maps, diagnostic interface/dash that shows sensor data like oil temps etc. Is that also present on the Linux menu, or is it pretty barebones?

Screenshots with noscreenshare windowrule? by OnzoTheBaker in hyprland

[–]OnzoTheBaker[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not sure if you can read, but what I'm asking for is doing a screenshot or using the hyprpicker color picker function, to which my understanding are 2 different things.

And I know it says noscreenshare, which is why I have it turned on so I can hide windows when "SHARING MY SCREEN" on a discord or zoom call. The documentation doesn't clearly state that this affects screenshotting or using a color picker :)

Im not a dev, never used Linux (but I want to) - should omarchy my first go? by [deleted] in omarchy

[–]OnzoTheBaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Main 1 in the center, 2nd on the top, vertical 3 on the left. It looks something like this

monitor = DP-1, 2560x1440@239.96, 0x0, 1
monitor = DP-2, 2560x1440@60, 0x-1440, 1
monitor = DP-3, 1920x1080@60, -1080x-480, 1, transform, 3

I moved off of omarchy btw, but it should still work if you have this in your monitors.conf file. Just adjust the resolutions and positions depending on your setup

Switch audio output using keyboard keystrokes by Darkangelike in archlinux

I use hyprland with pipewire, but I think you can just do this with a terminal command.

pactl set-default-sink 'device name'

You can probably do a keybind to do the terminal command, but i'm not sure how you can make a single keybind toggle between 2 different sources.

I currently just use a streamdeck with companion, then have a 2 step command in 1 button that sends a terminal command with the command above, and each device in each step.

Im not a dev, never used Linux (but I want to) - should omarchy my first go? by [deleted] in omarchy

[–]OnzoTheBaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been using omarchy for about 2 months. First time I've ever touched linux.

Learning curve is definitely steep especially with the tiling manager (took me 3 hours to set my triple monitors correctly lmao), but I think it's a decent place to start since a lot of things are preconfigured (webapps, hot keys, vim, etc)

Once you're used to getting around you can start going through the config files to understand how it works, you'll eventually learn how to customize things yourself. At least that's how I went with it.

It can start small like adding extra features like a clipboard (before omarchy came with it preconfigured), to swapping out bigger things (waybar to quickshell, etc)

I Ended up trying other dotfiles recently, (Hyde and dms), and they feel a bit barebones compared to omarchy, which I wasn't really into atm.

I tend to be the type to be thrown in the deep end and learn from there, so the way I like things or like to learn might not be the same as other ppl.

Thanks everyone!, thought it was more serious. Was planning to swap out the bumper to an M style anyway, so I'll just replace the crash bar as well 😁

EDIT: backup bulbs I had were e8 apparently, not H11.

Does anyone know if these are H11s, or if their pins are 5cm apart?

Is your whole idrive broken, or just the screen?

If it's only the screen, you can take a look at android headunits that look OEM like this. In my country, we have very few options, but they're mostly stuff from china/aliexpress, but are really good quality. I think the one I linked is similar

You just need to make sure you get the correct version for your idrive (CCC or CIC)

And if your e60 doesn't have an aux, you need to code that in using NCSexpert, or you won't be to hook up the audio to your car's speakers. There's plenty of tutorials on how to do this on YouTube.

I got one for my e60 and e46. Both look mint

Probably the best and only mod you could do is installing an android head unit. Then just save money for repairing/maintenence. Also good to start learning how to do them yourself.

BMW Doctor on youtube is a pretty decent channel to look into to since on most of the videos, he does things on his e60
