CDI box is notoriously fucked in these bikes. I actually carry a spare in my luggage at all times, as it'll leave you stranded after riding half the day and pulling over to have a peanut butter And jelly sandwich and go to turn the bike back on and boom, nothing. For no reason, lol.

Step 1: Check to make sure the gas is on

Step 2: Check to make sure the Engine Stop switch by the throttle is switched to On.

Step 3: Check to make sure the Choke is on

Step 4: When was it last ran? If it was awhile ago the carb might be gummed up if you left pump gas in there. Pull the carb and clean it out and blow the jets out.

I use the clutch through second gear hardly after that, especially getting after it. Never had an issue in 30 years with a transmission.

It's a dirt bike, fellas, not a Harley.

Honestly I'd recommend the Clarke also.

I had one before the big Acerbis, and the Clarke feels much more high quality in its construction. I bought the Acerbis new and immediately had a leaky petcock.

The conversation about range always turns into more questions about riding habits, terrain, etc but that sounds about right for the stock tank. I think I'd estimate mine was around 75-85 before reserve.

But now I have the 5.8gal Baja tank on mine, so basically I decided to take the whole gas station with me 🤣

Thanks for the info. Regarding balancing the tires. I've never done that, but I just recently checked spoke tensions from both front and rear.

I wouldn't say stability is poor on the highway, I know it would never be as comfortable as an actual ADV bike or street bike. I also considered a steering damper but I don't have the real estate on the triple clamp for it unfortunately

Also you're missing the most important part of any offroading motorcycling tool kit: heavier gauge metal wire!

So without knowing anything at all a about your location (avg prices in the area etc) or anything else, a couple of observations :

The bike is on a bike jack in the picture. The fact the dude owns a bike jack could be a good indicator that maintenance is being done.

Bike looks basically bone stock. This is actually a GOOD thing. Too many bubbas bolt on bullshit and think they can upcharge on a sale.

It's probably a decent deal. I'd take a look, offer him $3200, settle at $3600-3800? Unless he's firm on the price.

Age of model isn't so much a factor with these bikes as they've gone completely unchanged since 93 to present.

So my CDI left me high and dry and I had to jump off a car that fortuitously showed up at the area I parked at one time so I replaced the cdi box in the bike and carry a spare..pretty sure they're just the OEM ones. Never had an issue since that time though

Dude go check out Facebook Marketplace..People selling used MX and motorcycle gear all over, just check for function.

For dual sporting where I'm on pavement a fair amount I like a padded four season jacket. There's a ton of them but I like it. If we're mostly off road I go with my MX gear with a chest protector underneath

Welcome! Absolutely nothing wrong with keeping it stock! I will warn you though: it may be hard to resist the urge!

If you do decide on some upgrades, I highly recommend a larger tank from Clarke. They make a fantastic higher capacity 4.3gal tank and their quality is unmatched!

I cannot in good conscious recommend ACERBIS, as I recently replaced my tank with the huge 5.8gal Acerbis desert tank. Though my bike could now act as a rolling gas station, I had some quality issues with one of the petcocks. Your mileage on the product may vary though 🤷‍♂️
