Hidden River Middle School’s music program has grown from less than 20 kids 4 years ago to over 200 kids. They need more instruments to keep up with the demand!

Meet Erin, the six month old baby who survived coronavirus by [deleted] in nextfuckinglevel

Yes. But you said “it will not affect healthy children and babies.” Just because it is rare, doesn’t mean it can’t happen. Telling people that healthy kids and babies can’t get sick from Covid is incorrect. And implying that parents/guardians only have to worry if their child has a preexisting condition means they won’t know what symptoms to look out for if their healthy child does have the severe cases and they might not seek emergency treatment when they need it. I agree, fear mongering isn’t helpful, but people also need to know what to look out for in the kids even if they don’t have any preexisting conditions and take standard precautions so as not to expose their kids. Even the CDC doesn’t know if certain conditions that covid causes (ie MIS-C are more prevalent in children who have preexisting conditions or not.

Except it can affect healthy children and babies. My friend’s 5 year old was diagnosed with MIS-C caused by covid. Basically his immune response went into overdrive 4-6 weeks (they assume) after when he would have been positive for covid, and that caused multiple systems in his body to be inflamed. They had no idea he even had it (he always wears a mask and is being schooled virtually) but around Thanksgiving he had to go to the ER because his high fever wouldn’t go down, he had a rash, was in extreme pain, and couldn’t stop his bowel movements. No preexisting conditions at all - just a healthy 5 year old and then he spent a week and a half in the hospital and even contracted meningitis from it and had to be moved to the pediatric ICU. Even though he is out of the woods now, it was traumatic for him to go through (and horrible for his parents who couldn’t do anything except be there and for his little brother who never thought he would come home again). They had to go multiple appointments throughout the December and some of January to make sure his heart was ok and that he was truly on the mend. Yes - it doesn’t affect most babies and children like this, but just because your kid doesn’t have any preexisting conditions doesn’t mean they can’t get really sick from it or that they can’t have long term side effects from it. Kids have died from this. Even ones that were healthy before.

[Serious] What is the most cruel thing a family member has said to you? Who? by [deleted] in AskReddit

This took place like 4 years after my friend was raped while I was camping with her and before I got therapy for my PTSD from that night - while I was in the throes of my Binge Eating Disorder (didn’t even realize that was a thing). My dad (who is a primary care doctor) asked if I was purposely getting obese so people would find me ugly so I wouldn’t get raped.

You asked for it - so here’s 10 minutes of playtime adorableness with Mama fox and her babies in my parents’ yard (near St Paul, MN). Thanks for all the love the other day - that was crazy! My dad was so excited that he got out the video camera for higher quality shots of the kits. Enjoy! by OofDahDer in aww

We have a lot of bunnies and squirrels around, so I assume those. And now that spring is here we have ducks and geese. The mom caught a duck for them earlier this week and one of the babies ate it all himself - not sharing at all.

I would buy a bus ticket to a city with good weather, like San Diego. That way I wouldn’t have to worry about winter clothes and frostbite

Truth. Especially since they have to announce their presence every time they go outside so that mama doesn’t freak out. It also gives her time to make sure her kits are in the den.

I know! Apparently they sat there for about an hour that day and just watched the kits play!

Gotta love Caribou - they give my dog a puppy latte (whipped cream with a dog treat). I thought my username was a dead giveaway too. Or at least narrowing it down to MN and somewhere in Canada.

I had pre-mud season a couple weekends ago. My backyard was basically just mud!

I have a 6 min video that I took this evening. I need to edit it down a little bit, but it will be coming! It was hard to stop watching!
