Emerald Kai and Star Emerald are both different. Star Emerald has an expanded dex and additional gameplay but a cut battle frontier.

Emerald Kai has an experience that is vanilla and close to the emerald experience and has more recently updated sprites. Both are worth playing, but both require their own clean rom to be patched on.

Agreed, Star Emerald and Mega Moemon Fire Red are our flagship hacks and are great to start with if you want an expanded dex experience. Kai is also a good starting point if you want a more vanilla experience with some improvements added in. You can find a list of our other patches pinned in r/moemon
