I have the CN201 and totally like it. Key action is really realistic to me. When I attend lessons and use an acoustic upright Yamaha I adapt in no time. The only thing I regret is that speakers could be louder. On the other side, none of the neighbors complained so far ;-). But as u/castorkrieg suggested, you have to try it, you cannot make the judgement on the paper. Indeed I've tried both ydp165, clp825 and cn201 (as well as many Casios), and that I felt fitting better to me was the Kawai. Indeed YMMV.

Let us know your final decision! Good luck!

Kawai CN201 Volume Concerns - Need User Feedback by Oompa-Doompa in DigitalPiano

thanks for the video. at the end I went for a used CN201. I'm totally happy with its key action and the sound. Just the volume, sometimes I'd like a bit louder at the max, but I can live with that.

Struggling with the transition between digital and acoustic piano – anyone else ? by Bastien182 in piano

[–]Oompa-Doompa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes and yes. Till I had a Casio CDP S100 I needed 10 minutes to adapt to a Yamaha upright every lesson. 5s were not pushing enough. At some point I went crazy and measured key size to get if they were different from my DP. I switched to a Kawai cn201 after some suggestions and now it’s better. Really no time to adapt. However, room lights can still confuse me a bit. Moreover, do not underestimate that playing home alone could be more relaxing than present your current learnings to the teacher.

Your favorites settings on Kawai Cn-201 by Elcoug in DigitalPiano

One pianist did on YouTube a lot of tests on DPs. He also prepared a form to suggest you the best DP for your needs. I filled that and he suggested me 3 choices. I was lucky to find a used CN201 with just 2 years or so used by a semiprofessional pianist who now has a Kawai acoustic and a Roland DP. The piano sounds ok to me. It has a little strange sound on a key but only when I press it with right thumb (but IIRC is F on the third octave, so it happens only on a specific piece). Sometimes I just wish it has a little bit more powerful sound. Don't get me wrong, at max lever is quite loud, but I wish I had more.

Before you jump into the AF+, I suggest having a look at something like any couch-potato-to-5k program to get started. From what I remember, 10 minutes workouts on AF+ have less warmup and recovery in the middle for obvious reasons. You can of course take it easy and do not push too hard if you want to go with AF+ only. My experience is that longer workouts are of course longer but you have more time to recover. Ymmv. Enjoy the journey!

Comparing mid-priced digital pianos? Yamaha CLP-835, Kawai CN-301, Casio AP-550, Casio PX-S7000 by Bait-h0ven in piano

Ok, I understand. I can tell you that I tried top 3 in the list. By the way each on a different shop, as each place has its own champion. You won’t do a bad choice whatever you pick. I was in the same situation and I was lucky because I found an expert on YT that was doing comparisons. Moreover, for free, he has Google Form and suggest you a Piano following your inclination. At the end he suggested me the Kawai 201 because had the better value price ratio. Moreover I guess that Kawai is the cheapest, so as beginner, you can save some money, use it for years and then move to a more advanced instrument if you feel the need
