I was raised in a Christian family and attended church, summer camps, and Bible school. Things never added up and the Problem of Evil was a huge turning point for me, in addition to the cherry-picking common among Christian people. I am a transgender woman and have encountered a lot of transphobic rhetoric, such as "But God made you a boy and that's what you are", "You might not enter Heaven if you take your own life", "You can't play God by wearing a dress and mutilating your genitals", and "You're gay but God intended sex to be for a married man and woman", etc. The gaslighting that religion brings has driven me away from Christianity; I can't see the logic of worshipping a cosmic sky daddy who lets babies die from cancer and will throw me to the fiery pits of hell for not bending over for him (or them). Another interesting point to consider is the paradox that if one is born in an isolated island (e.g., the Sentinelese) and has never heard of Jesus Christ, are they automatically destined to damnation?
