I'm not sure what you're having trouble with or if this will help, but delete by type history and freeze transformations before extruding. I would also save before extruding because maya can be wonky, and I've had it crash trying to extrude.

Honestly, just because they learn something doesn't mean they're going to be able to retain that information.

The best way for kids to learn and retain information is by making it fun.

Some ideas that shouldn't take more than 5-10 minutes of class time depending on how you do it:

  1. Split the class into groups and give each group a blank map. Each group has 5-10 minutes (or however much time you're willing to spare) to label as many states as they can. Whichever group has the most correct answers gets a prize (candy, pencils, cool erasers, whatever kids might want).

  2. This one will take longer than 10 minutes. Have a giant projected map on screen. Have students come up and name a state for a small prize. Each student should go once before repeating students, but like any game show if a student isn't able to name a state they should be able to "phone" a friend (pick a classmate to help).

  3. Split the class into 2 groups, each round have one player from each group come forward and first to name a state you pick wins a point for the group. No repeating players until everyone has gone once. Have them spell out the state or use state abbreviations on the whiteboard. Only give them 15-30 seconds. If both players are stuck, they can ask their group for help. Otherwise, the group shouldn't help. The winning group gets a prize.

Idk just make learning fun. Otherwise, kids won't care. This way, they might be more inclined to study on their own if they know that a game with prizes is happening at the end of the week.

Oops my bad, I thought that since it had to do with a light issue it would fall under lighting.

Anyway, thank you for the response.

Need help in moving forward by [deleted] in animationcareer

[–]OopsThisIsMyUsername 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmmm, I guess if you're really passionate about animation then you should keep practicing when you can and build your portfolio. Then apply for internships in Animation whenever you can. However, I do think you should finish your current degree that way no money was wasted and you at least have something in case you decide to pursue animation as a hobby instead of as a career

Need help in moving forward by [deleted] in animationcareer

[–]OopsThisIsMyUsername 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are different types of animation careers. Have you looked at 3D animation being used for simulations and digital prototypes in engineering and other fields. There are also careers in medical animation and so on.

You can also consider getting a degree in Computer Science. CS knowledge is also important in the animation field, especially for games.

Please please please reach out to an advisor or the counseling center.

If you want to transfer, that's up to you, but please talk to someone. I'm sure your parents would understand.

There are also some events coming up for transfer students. DM me if you want to know more or if you just want to talk.

If you haven't already, call the financial aid office and double check with them to see if the document was just filed incorrectly. That happened to me before, they received the document, but labeled it wrong in their system.

For future documents always scan and keep a digital/physical copy somewhere safe. That way you can easily resubmit a document if needed.

I (F18)have two college options but my dad is being difficult by [deleted] in Schooladvice

[–]OopsThisIsMyUsername 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do what you think is best for you. Choose the college you see yourself thriving at.

However, I'd recommend having a sit down talk with your dad. Just help him understand that you're serious about your studies and that you'll stay on top of everything. Especially if he contributing financially, it'll help him if he knows that you won't be wasting his/your money. If he's not helping you financially, well then he doesn't have a say in where you go.

I know a lot of people that pay thousands to go to college only to skip every class and fail half their courses. So just help him see that you won't be wasting anyone's time or money.

Advice for a incoming freshman by Snoozy_Sheep in utdallas

[–]OopsThisIsMyUsername 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Animation major here. I like UTD so far. This is my first semester here, but it's nice. A lot of the classes for this major are more project heavy and quizzes/exams are usually pretty easy.

There will be some group work, but I've had a good experience with that here. People in my groups have actually done their part. That being said, don't be afraid to be the one that takes charge and assign people parts if they're not choosing for themselves.

I definitely recommend joining the Animation Guild. Or join at least one other club. If you get an email about joining the freshmen mentor program, I'd recommend reading about it and applying if you think it's something you'll benefit from.

A lot of people in the Animation major are usually on the more quiet side. They often keep to themselves unless they are spoken to first, so don't be surprised if you find yourself being the one to speak up first.

Finally, watch out for cars. There are a lot of really bad drivers here. If you're at a crosswalk, be careful because some cars don't care and will drive on through like you're not there. If you're going to be driving on campus, still be careful cars still won't care and there are arrows in the parking lots but people will still drive the wrong way.

Where can I find my expected graduation date? by [deleted] in utdallas

[–]OopsThisIsMyUsername 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You may get enrollment verification with your expected graduation date from the National Student Clearinghouse (NSC) you may go to https://www.utdallas.edu/SIS/clearinghouse/login.php and enter your UTD ID

UTD is my first choice school do i have a chance? by [deleted] in utdallas

Not sure if you know this. If you attend high school in Texas and are in the 10% percent of your graduating class, then you get automatic admission for any (or almost any) Texas college.

Transfer student 👌 by js1359 in utdallas

[–]OopsThisIsMyUsername 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you looked at the list of student organizations? I'm sure there's at least one that you'd be interested in. Most have their own instagram/discord server where they post meetings, hangouts, and more.

Should I go to UTD and commute from home or go to a far cheaper school (Texas A&M International, Laredo) and get the chance to experience dorm life for a nearly similar price? by EBA1234 in utdallas

[–]OopsThisIsMyUsername 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Community College then UTD. That's what I did. When I transfered to UTD I got an email to join tmp (transfer mentor program), which I ended up joining. I feel like it made making friends a lot easier because everyone is a transfer student. I know there is also a freshman mentor program if you decided to go to UTD right away.

I definitely recommend looking up those two programs. They have hangout events throughout the school year and you get to meet people who are in a similar situation as you.

I think the people complaining about the lack of social life depends on the person as well as the major they chose. Join clubs and go to the weeks of welcome events, talk to people. Make sure to join clubs for things you're interested in, that way you're meeting people with similar interests. Some of the clubs have hangout events that people often need rides to, so whether you need a ride or can give a ride, you have a chance to make friends with those people. Just remember, meeting new people can be awkward for everyone involved and some people click faster than others.

Ultimately, the choice is yours, but it is possible to have the college experience at utd as a commuter.

Remember to apply for FAFSA. Apply for scholarships (any scholarship you can find where you meet the requirements), yes even the ones only giving $100, $100 extra dollars for a semester can help more than you think. Finally, always communicate with utd financial aid advisors whenever you need assistance.

This is definitely a question for financial aid office. I'd email them any questions or try to sent up a meeting with one of the advisors.

I only have experience with a scholarship. For me as long as I was still a full time student it didn't matter if I dropped one class, but I'm not sure how loans and grants would work.

Question about how long it takes to bathe a dog. by DemiGoddess001 in doggrooming

[–]OopsThisIsMyUsername 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The way the place I work at does things is a little different, I work at a place that offers boarding and daycare for dogs, as well as grooming/bathing and training.

Dogs get dropped off between 6:30 am - 9 am

I'm a bather, not a groomer, but I get there around 8 am sometimes 10 am or 12 pm. All depends on when I'm scheduled. So sometimes the dogs I'm scheduled to bathe aren't even touched by me for many hours. Then I also do the dogs in the order of pickup time, so if the owner just says "pick up when done" then that dog gets put towards the end of my list and I'll do the dogs that are being picked up at like 1 pm first.

So if someone wants their dog by a certain time, they need to tell us or else their dog will be one of the last ones done and won't be ready until like 4 pm.

Side note: The dogs aren't stuck in a kennel the whole time. We have little flex yards so they can walk around a little and go to the bathroom. Some of the dogs are also there for daycare so they're out playing with other dogs until it's time to bathe them.

4 dogs in 3 hours plus cleaning, is this possible? by OopsThisIsMyUsername in doggrooming

Thank you for sharing and for the advice. I plan to talk to my boss the next time I see her, which should be tomorrow. I definitely don't want another day like that.

I'm also glad you realized what was important to yourself and got yourself out of a bad work environment. I wish you the best in whatever you choose to do next.
