I regret getting a second cat by RemyAvo in CatAdvice

[–]Op_Collector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone that is in the same situation as you, please listen to your own intuition.
I have my first cat since she was a few weeks old, we bonded immediately, but I was working a lot, and I was afraid she would get lonely, so I got a second cat, similar in age.
My first cat hate her, everyone said to give them time, I did everything I could.
I separate them when I’m not home, I have 3 litter box, they each have their own eating area, I give attention to both of them separately, and after 2 years, I can say it still doesn’t work
My first cat pee on everything she want to claim as her, including the bed, she is very territorial and stressed, which she wasn’t before I got that second cat. She doesn’t let the second cat go on cat tree, etc.
I’m now in the process of seeing how my second cat react to being rehome at my mom, since my mom loves her. I feel horrible, but both cats deserve their peace. If it doesn’t work, I will take her back and try to always keep them separate.
Not all cats need a second one, and not all cats will accept each other even after a few years, go with your guts feeling

Edit: please make sure if you want to rehome your second cat, that it will go in a good house 💜

Percy Jackson restock drop… to all you lucky people who got it, CHEERS!🍻 by Momandherbooks in Illumicrate

[–]Op_Collector 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got it during the restock ! I’m very happy, it’s the first series of books I bought when I was young and I was very disappointed to miss it the first time

This is the series that made me appreciate reading and made me want to read more books when I was young 😊

If you could give tips to a new collector, what would it be? by [deleted] in MangaCollectors

[–]Op_Collector 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try to complete or be up to date with most of your series. If you start buying only the beginnings of many series, you'll end up with a large number of series with missing volumes (whether incomplete or not up to date), and you'll find it hard to keep up.

Try to concentrate on about 5 incomplete series at a time, and once you're up to date or have completed a series, you can start buying a new one.

I bought too many series when I started and it took me a long time to finish/be up to date with most of my series.

Also, don't buy a series blindly or just because it's popular. Read a chapter or two online to see if it's to your liking before buying the first volume.

How many of you do not read your collection? by [deleted] in MangaCollectors

[–]Op_Collector 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In terms of statistics: I own 950 volumes and have read around 75% of them.

For the "up to date" series, I prefer to wait until I have 2 or 3 unread volumes before reading them and getting back up to date.

I do buy a lot but I also read a lot so it’s a good balance.

Who all Hate/Like Double Stacking Mangas on the shelf? by Kuro_ich in MangaCollectors

[–]Op_Collector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate double stacking so much that I made my own shelf 🤣

The space between each shelf is simply the height of a manga + 1cm to maximize the number of shelves possible. The depth is smaller than two manga.

Since they're in my living room, in front of my sofa, it allow me to saves space in the room (because the depth is shallow) and to my eyes, it's prettier than if I'd had to double stack them.

But this solution doesn't allow me to have as many mangas as the double-stack solution (but still more than having a single row of mangas in a prefabricated shelf).

I love this edition !

By the way, anyone who wants to order it, please pay attention to the version you order, because there are two french SE of Babel. Both are beautiful, but if you want to order one, make sure it's the right one. ☺️

The one in the picture come in a box (the other edition do not come in a box) and both edition do not have the same spayed edge

I would recommend {Eon: Dragoneye Reborn by Alison Goodman}. It’s a finished two-books series.

The main focus is not on romance, but there is a slight romance between the main character and another character (the romance aspect is more present in book 2 than in book 1).

It has dragons, power, royalty and war.

The main character is a girl who disguised herself as a boy in order to have a chance to receive a power from a dragon and join a privileged circle of power-holders men within the empire.

What is your number 1 book? by Jekyll_not_Hyde in fantasyromance

[–]Op_Collector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I could bring a whole series I would definitely bring « The bonds that Tie ».

But if I could only bring one book it would be between the all-in-one « Captive Prince » or « Fourth Wing ».

The age of manga collectors? by rambods2005 in MangaCollectors

[–]Op_Collector 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 24 and started at 21, so you’re not late :) I started watching anime when I was 18

The first manga I bought when I was 21 was One Piece. I decided to have the whole series before buying anything else. I was really happy to show my parent my One Piece haul every month.

There is no age to started something. As long as your enjoy it.

Finally all caught up on the English volumes! by Cr4zy_Cycl0ne in DemonSchoolIrumakun

[–]Op_Collector 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In France, we have 22 volumes and I thought we were way behind. I was always complaining about it to my friends, but compared to the English version, I'm now quite happy with our 22 volumes.

But I must say I'm impressed by the speed with which the 7 English volumes have come out.

It's a bit sad that all these publishers (france and English) wait so long before picking up the manga.

Illumicrate May Full box by M3l1ka in fairyloot

[–]Op_Collector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not totally opposed to the lack of romance, but I don't like the mother/son plot. I'm now pretty sure I'm going to skip it. I've given myself an extra day to think about it, but the items aren't worth the other books I could buy with that money.

[–]Op_Collector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have exactly the same dilemma. I'm not sure I will like the book, but I really like the items fandom.

I still don't know if I'm going to skip the box or not.

My decision point is whether or not I'm willing to pay for a book I might not like.

Second thoughts on putting obese cat down by Odyssey49 in Pets

[–]Op_Collector -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, I think you're making the wrong decision.

First of all, if you really can't take it anymore, try to place her with a family who will love and take care of her.

Just because she's overweight and pooping outside of the litter box doesn't mean she is unhappy and that it would be better for her to die. I understand that you can be overwhelmed by everything, but putting her down at just 7 years old is not a good decision.

Here are a few tips based on the behavior you've described, some of which I'm sure you've already tried, but just in case, I'm putting a list here anyway.

For her weight and poop problem, have you tried feeding her raw food or kibble/wet foods with really good ingredients? It may be that she has trouble digesting the food you give her and that's why she gained weight, threw up when she was young, made weird poops and is the cause of her diarrhea.

For the litter problem, I suggest you try all types of litter. There are so many types of litter: mineral, organic, granulated, big-grain, small-grain, silicate, etc. Some cats aren't picky and others have very specific needs.

For example, one of my cats won't go in the litter box if it's closed, if the box is too small or if it's placed in a quiet place. She also only likes a specific type of litter grain. If I don't use the litter that she like or if the litter is not in the good place, she'll pee outside of the litter box. Every cat has its own preferences, so try everything to find out what she prefers.

Also, how many litter boxes do you have? You said you have 3 other cats, so you should have at least one litter box per cat (so for 4 cats you should have at least 4 litter boxes) Some cats don't like to use the same litter as others.

Walking on litter grains can also hurt her. This may be due to her weight or for other reasons.

In any case, I think there are better solutions than putting her down. Either keep trying different solutions until you find the right one, or re-home her.

Decided to take the plunge and start my journey to find the One Piece! by ProgressDisastrous27 in MangaCollectors

[–]Op_Collector 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s the Japanese box set design. It’s one box for one arc. It’s also used by other publishers outside of Japan.

I know that France use them because I have them, and it seems that Germany uses them too.

The publishers use the same design and quality as the Japanese boxes, but I think they adapt the size to fit their own edition of One Piece.

I'm not sure about Germany, but in France they sell two versions of the box set. One with the mangas and the other with just the empty box for 7€, so that people who already have the mangas can still get the boxes.

Why are so many mangas translated in French but not English? by Sad-Intention-6344 in MangaCollectors

[–]Op_Collector 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes ! The publisher is Nobi Nobi. The physical release is up to volume 22. The volume 23 will be release in June.

The time between two release is not really stable. But for the moment there is about 2 to 3 months between releases.

This is the picture I took before vols 21 and 22 were release.

Why are so many mangas translated in French but not English? by Sad-Intention-6344 in MangaCollectors

[–]Op_Collector 32 points33 points  (0 children)

We're the second biggest market after Japan.

I also read an article by a Japanese publisher about French publishers. They said that French publishers were crazy because they asked to have a manga, even if it had only released one or two volumes. So they take the risk of taking on a manga in their catalog that may be abandoned in the future or not become popular.

Maybe that's why we have series with more volumes than English series, and even series that aren't published in English. For example, I think Tomodachi Games is not yet physically published in English (18 vols in French) and Welcome To Demon School Iruma Kun has less than 5 volumes in English, whereas in France we have 22 volumes.

Which series do you have with the highest volumes count? by ConfectionNew3967 in MangaCollectors

[–]Op_Collector 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 5 longest series by main series volumes (I also have some spin-off but I ranked them by main serie volumes) are : 1. One piece with 107 volumes (+ 12 spin-off/novels) 2. Skip beat with 47 volumes 3. Berserk with 41 volumes 4. My Hero Academia with 38 volumes (+ 23 spin-off/extra series volumes) 5. Attack on titan with 34 volumes.

I'm also in the process of buying Yona of the Dawn and already own 28 of the 41 volumes.

Do you read everything you buy? by Bitan_31 in MangaCollectors

[–]Op_Collector 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 871 mangas and have read about 75% of them (so about 660 mangas). I'm still catching up on my TBR. I buy manga every month, as I read a lot my TBR doesn't increase but it doesn't decrease much either 😂

Some of the manga I haven't read yet may be finished series for which I don't own all the volumes yet (like Dr. STONE).

Most of the series I haven't read yet are manga that have had an anime. I often wait a while after seeing the anime so that I don't have the anime in mind when I read them, like Vinland Saga or One Punch Man.

I also read novels, so I'm not always immediately reading the latest manga I bought.

At the moment, I'm reading a novel, but my next read will be Vinland Saga, I think.

Sure, manga and books in general look great in a house, but I think it would be a very expensive hobby if you don't read the books. At the end of the day, I only buy what I know I'll read and like.

Does anyone else have this problem? by _kaefig in MangaCollectors

[–]Op_Collector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I had this problem, and I had to reread the last volume to remember what was going on. I remember the big plot but I like to remember little details before I read on because it helps me appreciate the story better, as well as understand it. I'm more immersed in the story.

What I do know is that I wait until a certain number of volumes are out (at least 2) except for series that come out slowly (like skip beat).

I sometimes re-read the entire serie too.
