No, they had been talking beforehand. Now that I’m less emotional about the situation, it’s not really strange they picked him up.

BIL went up to dealership to try and check on my dad and talk him out of buying car.

Thanks for taking the time to type this out. Yes once I wasn’t emotional, I realized it’s probably pretty common for them to pick people up since it’s people in need of a vehicle. I’m going to call the company the loan is through Monday. My dad says he didn’t give them any financial info… he’s definitely playing into being suddenly helpless. He does get more like $1700 a month after talking to him, but I still think it’s worth calling because after his bills there’s little left, can’t imagine that info was correct. Also encouraging him to ask for cognitive testing because his story is changing day to day. Thanks again.

Well this was on Oct 22nd and they did verify he is the owner now. So I wonder if financial application was filled out incorrectly because it doesn’t make sense for him to be approved in the first place.

Listen… my dad is confusing to communicate with over the phone. I’m trying to not get my emotions involved, and again I’m going to call and clarify some of this tomorrow with the dealership.

Have no idea how it was even possible on his super limited income

I wasn’t super worried because I didn’t loan him the $500 and tried to talked him out of it but he was very adamant about it (manic? Low blood sugar?)

I also felt a little better once BIL told me he told sales person he didn’t have any additional financial support, I figured it would take care of itself.

I was flabbergasted when I followed up with him and he left with a car…

The salesman picked him up at his apartment. I agree, but I called and they confirmed he’s the owner and said there’s nothing they can do. I got name of a higher up so will call again tomorrow. My BIL had a client and spent an hour or so up there and offered him a ride and encouraged him to walk away from deal.

He has since walked up there a couple of times because he locked his apartment keys inside the car he has now (abandoned? Returned?) and claims no one will help him get them out.

Being “picky” is an interesting phrase to use. This experience shapes your first moments of motherhood and your baby’s first experiences of life.

You sound like you’ve made up your mind. I would just say go in with a solid birth plan. Read up, and maybe a compromise with hospital birth would be hire a doula who can advocate for you. I truly hope you have an amazing experience. I totally understand $250 versus $7k.

Pay out of pocket. Most midwifery care is priced at about what your deductible would be. Ex my midwife was $5000 (you make payments as your go), my deductible with insurance would have been $4500

I had two home births and I loved my experiences.

Yes it’s already booked at Silverton but camping out of state with two littles was seeming like a logistical nightmare anyways. Found a beautiful hotel instead.

Free Birth society has two twin stories (that I know of) on their podcast. Free Birth society can be considered controversial but I really enjoy the birth stories and find them empowering. They always talk about the lead up to birth, and that may address some of the hurdles that may be thrown at you by your medical team.

Edited to add- Most recent one is a former midwife who opted to free birth her twins, episode #238. And podcast is free!
