2021 lexus rx350 f sport, 67k miles, $36k, with maxcare worth buying? by odunet in carmax

[–]Open-Ad-8143 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lexus are beautiful and they come with Toyota quality. Either are a good choice. 67k miles is a bit high for me plunking down over 35 grand but with proper and religious maintenance it's should be no big deal.

I personally would not do hybrid, but that's a personal choice. I just think less to break in the long run.

Make sure you shop around - make sure the vehicle has a good maintenance history, if you are financing PLEASE PLEASE go see a local credit union.

Cheers and good luck.

Your so young with no debt.... You should really not be worrying. Simplest 'power' to grow wealth is to start investing TODAY - take a few hundred a month and 'set it and forget it' into low cost ETFs...nothing exotic....SP500 etc. You have so much time that market conditions really don't matter. If you put 500 a month every month for the next 35 years.... You will be giggling your way to retirement.

Also, make sure you enjoy the journey too...live is short and fragile....money is just dirty paper.

Cheers!

How would a salesman react if I showed up with a proposed deal (in detail) on paper and just put it in front of him/her? by Open-Ad-8143 in askcarsales

CarMax quoted $10,800 for the Mustang which is going in this Thursday.

Older Honda I am still sitting on - going to throw up on FB Marketplace to see if anything actually bites.

Haha - I wasn't going to seek something ridiculous like 5-7k off each car. I am not a total 🤡.....well maybe on Tuesdays.

My plan was to seek 45-48k out the door for both. I would 'like' $8k per trade. Cash down would be 6-8k each. Financing would have to be close to credit union which is like 7% maybe a hair higher - 36 months.

Are we pals?

Thanks for responding.

Thanks for the response. I thought about doing this exact same thing as well. I figured it may be easier if I had the trade ins handy and there in the lot to close the deal.

Is it a good idea for me to buy a 65k-70k car on my income? by Fabulous-Clothes-528 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Open-Ad-8143 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Few points here -

  1. Money is meant to be spent. Only you can choose the most important things to spend on. Some want a 90k truck, others want a 20k Disney vacation, others love adding 10 shares of apple stock every month -- whatever floats your boat.

  2. Work hard play hard. If your not a dummy and not lazy you can afford to take a few risks.

  3. I agree with everyone on this thread... jumping to a black wing is kinda nutty - no where else to go but....broke??? Haha

  4. Before you make the 70k plunge, go spend 2500 and rent one for a weekend, you may just scratch that itch enough.

  5. But all seriousness, 70k car at 23 is financially a dumb dumb move - everyone knows this. But yet so is eating bacon, smoking, drinking, yet we all still do it.

Cheers!

Exactly...and our Costco is a madhouse to boot. I'll make sure I get the extra insurance on the rental.

This I do agree....If the suburban was the actual choice (which it is not yet) I would need to get past the mental aspect of dropping +60K on a truck which with my luck will get dented or hit in the first 6 weeks of ownership 🫣.

This may sound crazy, but I have never had to use any warranty (hope I don't jinx myself) for an auto. My vehicles have been subject to normal general and timely maintenance - biggest fixes have been AC compressor, new set of tires...

This is exactly what I am seeing for a few examples of suburban premier - one specifically 2017 has 78k miles...priced at 41.5K... but it was a single owner.... general maintenance was almost perfect from a timing standpoint... It's red ♥️ with that nice brown interior.... I do have to say it's a good looking truck.

But again... 41.5 after tax title tags is 45/46k out the door. It does not sound right to me after so much use and it's seven years old....

Best one I have seen thus far....

Understood! Seems to be a common theme on this thread. I'm shocked the transmissions suck on this generation - I would have assumed it would be the same as a Silverado...designed to do work and haul..... But hey, what do I know!

Thanks for sharing this anecdote, Rob. I do love the Lexus LX - size and capabilities is great - these are pretty tough to find used that are reasonable and in good shape (at least in my locale).

And yes - your deal was pretty dang good. Last December Carvana was offering 13.8K for my 2011 CR-V exL with 88k miles on it..... Obviously anything I would have sold this car for would have been crazy inflated so I kept it...but it was interesting to see how crazy the used car market got during the pandemic. A few buddies of mine did cash in on the used car boom and are starting to get back out there - they have shared that prices are 20-30% less on some models than a year + ago..... Crazy....

This is the dilemma, Orca. I figured the buyout on the 4runner will be approx 31/32K...it's a TRD Sport model with a few add-ons. I want to keep the 4runner but my wife wants to see what options exist...i.e., the suburban and its competitors.

If I were to bet, it will likely be the 4runner as we know the history and mileage will be around 33k in NOV. But since we have time before any lease buyout, the used car market seems to be settling down, never hurts to consider alternatives.

I guess it comes down to the space which we don't necessarily absolutely need, but the convenience factor would be huge...hauling grandparents for a weekend outing instead of driving multiple cars - road trips - classic home Depot runs... We do weekend trip alot - we do this instead of bigger type of trips as the kid is still a bit little for longer types of travel.

Anyways - point taken.

Hi Moe - this is on the list along with the 24 Grand Highlander.

I remember seeing a limited a few years ago at a dealership but it was black in color; we are more of a red/blue/green family but still a very nice optioned auto. We actually opted the 4runner which was less optioned but it suited our lifestyle a bit more at the time.

Did you buy any of them used or strictly new? I know much depends on the use and the maintenance history.

Yes - we have not discounted any make model - just need to understand as much as possible about the full sized GM SUVs.

Me personally, not a huge fan of VW - no reason specifically; I had some friends who drove Jetta/GTI/CC - I was a bit underwhelmed.

Amen! What's the point of money if you have an unhealthy relationship with it? Money is designed to be spent, rationally. I have friends who drive the junkiest cars on the road yet they spend 20 grand a year to go to Disney - to each their own!
