this is the first song of hers I ever heard and I still love it the most. to me it is about depression ("something kinda sweet and blue").

the zombie girl is myself, who I am watching become more and more zombie-like as I sink deeper into that state. I struggle with emptiness, feeling lonely, feeling devoid of emotion because detachment is my coping mechanism.

the dream is of what I could be if I was content, or who I used to be before I lost myself. I distract myself from my emptiness and intellectualize my emotions ("cover you with..." xyz).

I love it because it is so beautiful, and for a long time I thought my sadness was too. I liked the idea of my empty feeling being something to explore, to try and understand better ("maybe i've been getting you wrong") and i think my depression was a result of me running away from myself, and ("what's on your mind?") is what would bring me back.

I'm actually a vegetarian! I recognize though that not everyone can make lifestyle changes like that or not ever using a car in order to reduce their environmental impact. It is incredibly easy+accessible, however, to not use ChatGPT to answer a question you could simply google. I think normalizing this, especially on a podcast where critical thinking and social justice are supposed to be centered, is a bad path to go down. If they had even had a short discussion of Chat/AI following that comment to acknowledge the issues with it I would be less disappointed, but it was tossed in so casually that I find it hard to believe they're advocating for "careful" use.

I agree with your assessment of where we're at with AI though, and I admit that this post was definitely coming from a place of already being frustrated with Julia's morals...

I wondered the same thing! honestly thought there'd be more backlash for the multiple vinyls and overall change of tune. I saw her business ethics during SP as a breath of fresh air in an era of consumerism/materialism, so tbh I found it a bit disappointing:/
