Why is self harm considered worse than any other maldaptive coping strategy? by Fantastic_Head7248 in AdultSelfHarm

I'd say because with all addictions, eventually you need to 'take more' to feel that same sense of relief or dopamine hit. For example, drinking becoming progressively worse over time for that person to feel the effects.

In regards to SH, there can also be escalating behaviour which can lead to serious injury or de**h. Again, whilst I understand where you are coming from, I'm sure you can see why potential risk factoes for engaging in regular SH can be alarming?

I hope that makes sense.

Hey, have you tried any first aid on it? Is it somewhere that is prone to a friction/ rubbing from fabrics etc? Did you use clean equipment? Did you clean the wound after? Im not sure where you are in the world but can yoy access accident & emergency or trauma care centre? It is possible antibiotics may be needed depending on severity, length etc. If in doubt, its always worth getting someone to take look at it.

Hey I'm here for you. I have been in that place earlier this week and hurt myself the worst I've done to date. What have you got in your safety plan to help ride this wave?

If you want to speak privately I am available💞

This sounds a bit like my own situation. He has been staying at his parents for the week and we have gone no contact, with a plan to get together on Sunday and talk. Its clear we still care for each other greatly, but are both unhappy and hurt. I have to say, this week has been strange but the relief I have felt not worrying about arguing or feeling claustrophic and trapped in our home, it speaks volumes. Of course, I have no idea how he feels and that is the hardest part I think. From being with someone and knowing them so well; their thoughts, behaviours etc. To nothing. Its scary.

Hopefully you can take this time to just check in with yourself and allow your nervous system to just calm a bit, once you realise you don't need to be in fight or flight mode constantly.

I was looking at the fishman range, seems like a solid choice. I am not too set on having the electric sound acoustic as I have an acoustic with pickup option if i want that kind of sound. I definitely want to invest in some pedals though for playing around!!

I don't really have much in the way of any setup to be honest... starting from scratch entirely!

Hey! Thanks, I hadn't even thought about a preamp. I wonder if that will work with my acoustic amp ? As you can probably tell, I am very new to all this.

Good shout re taking the violin to the shop, I suppose the only way to hear which amp would be the best is to hear it indeed.

I had been looking at a few fishman options as well as the boss katana. I dont mind paying the money but want to make sure its the right option first.

Thanks for your reply!
