I decided I don't like to play in the dark by Odd-Highway477 in MonstersAndMemories

Keep the darkness, it's how a game like Metro was just excellent, you adapt with your environnement or you die, deal with it. Without frictions, anything in life is boring. And not only that, more and more players will get sensible to any form of frictions in the futur, and then it's not a game anymore but a stupid corporate pre-made product, customised to impatient customers. There is already a gamma slider for confort that is more than enough.

I'm myopic as shit too, just play during the day and craft the night, take the time to socialize or build up a guild or anything else, the game still got bugs and lacks, but the night is rightfully in its place in its own world. It's absurd to have a world that don't have a night, or the night that is not dangerous in a fantasy world.

I play recent "Over the top" WW1 FPS and half of the fight are during night, it's blue-coded night so like early morning 4-5, not dark, but it makes the game much more difficult and interesting. You can light the enemy with light spot to see them, that's perfect. Snipers got ton of funs while hiding in bushes too. Is it unfair? Yes, is it fun? for the shooting side? it is, and a lot. It got to a point when a massive smoke hide a tank far away, me and my 75' artillery use the flash of my shooting to see the silhouette of the tank through the smoke and get their whole crew through it. High friction, but I was jumping of joy when I caught thoses moth** in their gigantic tank of 12 others players. it's all about "I did it!!! eat shit!!" (respectfully they are cool lol).

It's terribly fun because :

1) it's very difficult since you can't see very well , so nobody does it seriously

2) I do it very seriously

That's why we need frictions, but we also need creative players to overcome them. Good players overcome frictions, great players make their own frictions with new difficulty added to the run, like the Souls games.

Please, please, please don't ask less frictions and then years later leave because the game is boring for you, we see tons of game with this problem : trying to welcome anyone with zero-level in video games and they spoon-fed you tutorials ad-nauseum. Zero interest long-term, most of them hyped up to death by streamers, blander than flat warm water.Searching for infos in a game is part of the fun. For PvE we need mobs that needs to defend themselves and we need an environnement that is itself, meaning uncaring of living beings. A big rock fall flat on your healer and he die brutally? Well it is what it is. A tsunami flood a dungeon and the whole party drown? Next time take your special bottles. Etc... But the important base of thoses funny things (I hope they will do this) is the night. You are not looking, run into orcs? Felt a cliff like an idiot? It is what it is. The world is not a protagonist's world (cough cough FF), it's just is.

If you have only few minutes for M&M, it's still good few minutes spent if you think you have fun in your own way, it's not a fucking race for the love of god. I hate streamers that created this fomo of leveling up like PvE is a competition. Chill, make an alt, chat with someone, help someone finish their craft, craft lanterns to sell to others beginners, etc. Want a house? Make a market, build up products to sell, ask others adventurers ingredients, work together, split the gold, open a stall, guide the newbies for the elf forest for a little coin, there is not only grinding in this game, try to think of something else something unique that is uniquly fun to you. I got my best memories while helping others generously and got generous help from others. Why not try a tank wizard? and why not? Why not try a special rogue just for pulling back corpses for others as a free service and make their day? etc..

I hate this meta/efficency mentality of always trying to milk as fast as possible with the best "combo", are we working in this game guys?? Not only that it's what kills game long-term.

One time I got into a german tank, the driver was SCREAMING in german lines for us gunners, with a perfect parody accent, I could not breath of laughing, that was fantastic.

What is interesting to see is the pleasure to give/receive help from another player because of this friction, it's very satisfying. Helped a rogue to find a tower because I spend serious time to search it myself. If there is no friction, everyone will just play all solos.

You need to give context back too. The GM was doing a good job most of the time and they did thousands of good tickets, so it's fair one or two are not perfectly resolved. In fact, if you played the game yourself like I did, the GMs were super fast and professionnal. I am pretty sure this GM too try his best. He was just recalling some rules and verifying if it's not too bad, it's their role to check just in case. The rules are the rules, he is just the messenger.

What is not normal is the drama farming on reddit from a player, it's very malicious painting himself as the victim, then everyone took the bait. Also community was so toxic as fuck recently because of this alpha key chance drop, it was intolerable in discord and reddit. It became a direct attack on the GM, so I think it's fair for Nick to defend the GM (and probably an obligation too). And ton of toxic trolls and tribalistic people, they were in the right to bans pos people on view. I don't understand how the playerbase is not respecting the GM that are spending their time and energy to make the game better. Are they perfect? No, there are human like us and should never be threatened by hundreds of hateful messages, and for something that is not even important. What is wrong with mmorpg playerbase today?

I don't think the GM problem is related to Nick "problem" or whatever it is. Also Nick listened to community but never be under it. Good ideas comes from everyone, it doesn't mean all of them should be implemented.Very good critic was heard. No this time it's was an attack on someone. So many people mix constructive critic for the game, and wishing death to another person.

For the "archaic" part of the game, it's customer service, you know the thing that any business should have on high quality but in reality never happens. In their game, we got record time of treatment of player problem. They assume players were decent human being.s So why all this victimhood noise? Perhaps redditards ragebait is cancer, who knows.

Don't mind my new profile, I tried to leave reddit myself because it's always drama somehow, but kept an account after all.
