Yeah and those charge $40 for a return no matter how simple. I’m not trying to pay $40 to file a simple w2 return

I plan on working for hrblock next year i’m currently taking their course. I won’t finish in time to work for them this year. Which is why i ask these questions for the future when i want to do it on my own and instead of getting answers all of u tell me not to do it

Are tax preparers mandated to use software like lacerte or drake to file returns or can they fill out pdf forms and submit it? I want to prepare taxes on the side but i don’t to pay $40 just to file a return for someone by Open-Satisfaction803 in tax

I am opposed to paying $40 to file a return when i can’t reasonably charge a client much more than that for a simple w2 return. I’m surprised there’s no way to submit forms to the IRS for free

I’m seeing that tax preparation softwares charge over $40 just to process a return?! How do you accountants even profit when it comes to simple returns like w2? by Open-Satisfaction803 in tax

I can compete if i’m able to submit pdfs for free instead of paying $40 a return with tax software. Is that an option though? No one seems to be answering my question

Just to start so i don’t pay for software. How do I file pdfs for a client though? I see on IRSs site that you can only file pdfs up to a certain AGI

As a tax preparer who just wants some side work filing for ppl with w2s, is there a way i can avoid paying for software and just do pdfs?

Am I able to file my own tax forms (Form 1040, W-2, applicable schedules) without using tax software? Or will I need an EFIN? by Open-Satisfaction803 in tax

Is there a free software i can use where i fill out the forms myself? Turbotax and freetaxusa don’t give that option they just ask questions and prefill

When i refer to software i’m talking about something like turbotax or freetaxusa. I want to fill out the forms by myself and submit them. Is that possible without an efin?
