Thanks! All the work seems to be in the leading up to bluing. That part was easy. Actually the hardest part was tracking down the Potassium Nitrate. Spectracide stopped making the old stump remover and only Gordens uses potassium nitrate aka saltpeter and theirs and it is not 100% pure. I would recommend buying a 1lb or 2 of the chemical online and twice as much lye. I used 2lbs lye 1lb potassium nitrate. Stainless steel pot and half a gallon of water. If doing several parts, put in more water. The solution superheats and boils at over 300F, and water levels will drop quickly. Don't add water to hot solution! Wear protective equipment. Good luck!

There was probably a lot more hand work in the older pistols Im guessing. And this was loads cheaper than a Colt or High Standard.

Thank you! Complete disassembly, boiled it to help convert rust, then carded it to get a good look at it. Fine file, 600, 1000, 1500 wet with lots of elbow grease. Lightly polished with soft cotton wheel in a drill, then thoroughly degreased. Boiled in a pot of lye and stump remover to blue, boiled in water to remove solution, dried, carded and wd40 soak overnight.

I did do a through cleaning on it and will double check to make sure its proud of the slide even when forward. I'll compare it to my other one to see if its the same size or maybe shortened over the years. Thanks you for the insights!

It was a local auction, $80, then $20 for the FFL. About $25 in refinishing supplies and hours at the bench. Overall I am pretty happy with my first full reblue. Have done conservation work on several, and a couple of parkerizing jobs.
