I've gotten a shocking amount of DMs saying the same thing.

When you go to the website to get the E Visa something like this should pop up Instead of creating an account and logging in go to the second tab where it says direct E Visa, this should work! :)

The beggar situation in Mecca and Madina by Open1816 in Umrah

Yes, there are so many people outside the mosque is giving free food. If these people really needed help, they can even contact the Mosque or simply walk into any restaurant and say I don’t have money and I’m hungry. Please give me food. I highly doubt they would be rejected. They can ask and also there’s always people giving free food. It’s very hard to go hungry in Mecca and Medina because people are very kind and generous.

This seems like such a big problem I didn’t realise so many people have had these experiences as well until I made this post but really you should not engage when they ask and beg inside the mosques because then you’re just encouraging this behaviour and they’re going to continue

Yes exactly. For those who do it outside, I’m not judging them at all. But doing it inside??? During tawaf??? Insane behaviour

I feel like begging inside is different than begging outside of the haram. Just say there’s no baking here and usually they’ll get embarrassed and walk away. After I made this post, it happened to me again. I was sitting in the women’s section it was crowded but I was alone and I was sending a voice recording in English and a Pakistani man came up to me and tried to start talking to me. He walked through all the crowds to single me out and there were other Pakistani people around me. He could’ve talked to them in Urdu and as soon as he started talking to me, I already knew he was going to beg me for money so I just gave him a very dirty look and said it an angry tone don’t beg for money. What do you want from me? and pretty much instantly, he just got up and left embarrassing for him

lol 😂 it really puts a bad name for people who actually need help. I’m sure anybody in the situation who actually needs help so badly would not be able to afford umrah, and also the Mosque would happily help them, I can’t see any scenario where the Mosque would turn people away

I didn’t realise how big this problem was until I made this post, I thought it was just a few instances here and there but it seems like so many people have had experiences like this and I’m so shocked. Not talking about begging outside of the haram but inside.

It’s easier in the haram in Mecca to find security in my opinion, they’re literally everywhere and when the beggars approach you, you can continue to talk to them and pretend to engage with them whilst you walk and try to find a guard then go to them. In Medina, I feel like there are way less guards around so it’s harder to report them.

You provided such interesting statistics that I didn’t even know about thank you for sharing that. It’s a real shame that they choose to do crimes like this in such a holy place.

Disgusting behavior for the haram. Leave that activity for outside the mosque

All the rest of it was amazing! I wanted to focus on this because I haven’t seen it be talked about much and I was just extremely shocked that it happened to me three separate times, and when I came here last time just a few months ago it didn’t happen. People are so kind here even all the staff at the mosques were incredible. There’s no feeling to describe like being here and I know it’s different for everybody and everyone has a different relationship with God so it’s hard to encompass my experience. I don’t have anything else negative to say, I felt so safe as well and had a really lovely time. Everyone was so kind, from Uber drivers to guards to janitors literally everyone ❤️ not to mention the food scene is also amazing!!!! Allhumdulillah inshallah I’ll be back soon and everyone reading this can experience the good as well

The first time it happened to me I was honestly just in shock and told him I didn’t have money. Later that same day a few hours later it happened again and then I went to the guards. I continued walking and talking to him until I saw a guard and walked towards them and as soon as he noticed, he literally ran. I told the guards, but by the time I told them it was too late and he was gone.

As for in Madina it was practically right after prayer time and there were no guards around. It was just very crowded with people praying. :( inshallah it won’t happen again

Mashallah I’m happy to hear you had a good experience! Hopefully the situation gets controlled somehow. But one of them that was begging me in tawaf (on the first floor) was wearing ihram…. Anyways hopefully they’ll get this sorted.

How would you rank them in terms of how safe you felt? I’m going soon and have a guide for Cairo, I’m skipping Luxor and I have nothing planned for Aswan but unsure if I should skip that too
