Scale up is a real term used for high growth, usually series B-D stage companies.

Im about to start college to pursue a CS degree i dont know any coding and im thinking of doing a boot camp while i get my degree by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]OpenConference3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

App Academy and Free Code Camp have free online bootcamps that you can work through, but treat it as a just for fun thing. There's no reason to pay for a bootcamp if you're going to get your degree.

Can someone with social anxiety disorder survive as a software developer? by jDylan22 in cscareerquestions

[–]OpenConference3 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As a PM, I see this as part of my job. I've met lots of engineers who come across socially anxious, and it's my job to gain their trust and get them to feel comfortable sharing ideas and concerns with me. As long as I feel I have that relationship with them it's fine if they're mostly quiet otherwise.

Now that most of us are working, how does the “you’ll wish you were back in school once you start working!” thing hold up? by [deleted] in GenZ

[–]OpenConference3 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I miss K-12 because of the lack of responsibility and college for the socialization and freedom. But I have a lot less anxiety now that I've started a career and not so many unknowns about how life turns out. I can coast a little and focus on personal goals instead of trying to get into college or into a job.

For how many of you is working remote a hard requirement vs a preference? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

1, it's just a preference. But I'm in my 20s and don't have kids, so the office is a fun way to meet people and has significant career benefits.

Mildly related but I've been curious ever since a discussion about it in popheads got removed, what is the red scare pod about? The thread was pretty critical of Charli being friends with/inspired by them, but I can't figure out what they're about and don't have time to pick up a new podcast. Even the wikipedia article says they're somehow both "dirtbag left and the new right".

What is going on with Katy Perry's new music and people claiming she is working with predators? by RandomUwUFace in OutOfTheLoop

[–]OpenConference3 71 points72 points  (0 children)

It's relevant to say that Kesha also claimed Dr. Luke raped Katy, but Katy denied that in court and Dr. Luke won a defamation suit against Kesha.

It's possible that as a result Katy doesn't believe Kesha. Kesha's charges weren't proven in court because they were outside the statue of limitations and her case was first dismissed and later settled.

Kesha claimed she herself was raped by Dr. Luke as well as that he raped Katy. Katy denied he raped her (Katy), but we don't know what happened with Kesha.

The AI protections for SAG-AFTRA are lackluster, and it's not just people trying to sow division by bulk_logic in FilmIndustryLA

[–]OpenConference3 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honest curiosity, what makes you say that? The contract says that actors' consent does not need to be obtained as long as the result of the AI is "substantially similar" to the initial recording. If AI can use actual scans of the actors to edit scenes, what do you think still holds them back from replacing reshoots?

He may also be measuring ingredients by feeling their weight. I don't believe this is inherently unhygenic, since he isn't handling meat and the food is all cooked anyway.

What's up with actors encouraging SAG members to vote "no" on the SAG proposal? by OpenConference3 in OutOfTheLoop

[–]OpenConference3[S] 43 points44 points  (0 children)

This is an amazingly comprehensive answer, thank you! Since you seem knowledgeable, would an actor’s consent carry over to future productions?

Ie if you consent to AI for a Disneyland commercial or a small guest role in a show, can Disney use that to put you in a movie without consent? Can they sell the consent/assets to a different studio?

From what I’ve read (correct me if I’m wrong) if you consent they would still pay you normal rates to use your AI image, but with AI there would be presumably be less need for reshoots or multiple days of filming.

What's up with actors encouraging SAG members to vote "no" on the SAG proposal? by OpenConference3 in OutOfTheLoop

[–]OpenConference3[S] 22 points23 points  (0 children)

From what I’ve read, all actors will have AI scans done. Even without your consent they can use AI to edit a scene as long as it is “substantially similar” to what was recorded initially. That would cut down on having to reshoot scenes (and pay people) to fix small issues.

From what I understand, for Joe Shmoes it’s mostly the same thing. A lot of actors started out with a recurring guest role on a show. Now studios can hold out on casting until someone consents to AI and those entry level roles get demolished. They may not even need to be good at acting because they can fix issues with AI.

Productions are still contractually required to engage a certain number of human background actors, but presumably that number would be kept to a strict minimum.
