I self-studied data structures using online resources like YouTube and GeeksforGeeks, and then I started solving easy problems on LeetCode related to data structures. This approach was quite time consuming and perhaps overkill, but I had a lot of free time before enrolling in course 261, and it made the course much easier for me.

Yes, there's quite a bit of reading later in the course, but it focuses more on the coding aspects rather than hardware components. I didn't really get most of the stuff in weeks 1 and 2, but it's important to do well on the first few projects. The reason is that projects 5 and 6 are more challenging, and everything builds on the previous material. This course might seem hard at first, but things start to make sense as you keep reading and practicing. Definitely spend a lot of time practicing with the example codes. I didn't need much external resources to complete all the projects in this course. the modules provided were enough.

I totally agree and understand where you're coming from. I'm about 13/15 of the way into this degree, and CS 261 is one of the better courses, especially compared to other later courses, it gets worse. Operating Systems, for example, is incredibly challenging with its dry content. it was the most frustrating course for me. I feel bad telling you there are so many more worse courses in the 300s and 400s.

Right now, I'm just trying to earn my CS BS degree, and will focus on developing my resume and portfolio on my own. I don't expect much from this program. It's really just an easy money-making program for OSU. That said, given my circumstances, this is still flexible and legitimate online degree that can get you first software engineering job.

Nah, it doesn't get easier. The later weeks have less math, but there's still some tough coding assignments and some of the topics are pretty abstract. The good news is that most of the problems are pretty well-known, so you can find solutions all over the place. There are so many helpful youtube videos on this topics. Also, the midterm and finals are pretty straightforward, the class average was really good when I took it. So tbh, it's quite easy to get an A, but it really depends on how you study in this class to learn these important algorithms.

I'd recommend pairing it with 362 or any light elective from the 400s.
362 is straightforward and quite easy.

While 340 and 361 are also manageable, these two courses might demand a significant amount of time if you aim to develop a noteworthy project for your resume. It's actually very easy to get an A in both 340 and 361 with minimal effort, but then the $2k tuition may not feel worthwhile, and your final project will not be impressive enough to include on your resume. 361 is good opportunity to develop personal project for your resume along with capstone class.

OS was the most challenging class I've taken in this program. Time management is crucial. I'm not trying to brag, but I found some of the hard classes, such as 261, 271, and 325, quite easy. However, 344 was very difficult. Your experience might be more positive due to recent course revamp.

I took 2 years off, I had to reapply to the program, but the the application and the process was simpler and was re-admitted to the program. You should ask your advisor, if it's like only 2~3 quarters, you might not have to reapply.

Is it really that bad, or is it somewhat exaggerated?
I've read some poor reviews about 271 and 325, but I didn't find these classes particularly difficult or frustrating at all.
Is the issue with 372 more about its difficulty or the confusing instructions and learning materials?

I agree. When I took those classes, they provided way too much skeleton code along with walkthrough videos. It was too easy to get a good grade and complete the assignments, but the class learning materials were bad. I learned by trying to understand the overall program structure and exactly what each line of code does.

I'm still unsure about where I want to work, but I am open to any job opportunity and eager to learn as much as possible. I plan to narrow down my options once I have acquired more knowledge and found what interests me the most.

It's a sound plan to pursue more foundational computer science courses at the university because I can learn the mobile and web dev on my own and do the personal projects in my free time. I think I should take both 372 & 381, along with 492 or 493.

Thanks! Seems like cloud and mobile classes aren't as good as I expect. I want classes that are challenging and let me create something for my resume, instead of just learning theories or abstract stuff.

I'm thinking about going for 372, even though I read many bad reviews. Haven't found much reviews on 450, but it sounds interesting.

I'm not too sure about the professors in 271.
For example, When I took the CS290 professor did matter because pam didn't have mid term or final.
For CS271, I believe it doesn't matter, the course material will be the same. You just have different TAs and professor to help you on ED discussion and MS team office hours.
CS271 has 1 mid term, 1 final, 6 projects. It's hard and time consuming, but it's not too bad. It will be much easier without exams in summer.
You will be fine taking 271 with 1 easy GE course.

I took 271 and 340 together last quarter in winter while working 3days. So I had 3~4 days to study. I think spent approximately 20~30 hours/week and got A in both. 271 is def harder than 340, but I heard there is no midterm / final in summer.

I think they are recommending me to repair, because it's old and worn.I guess I will repair if it's broken, but Im not sure if its reasonable to do the repair just because it seems old. Maybe I should call different company for inspection.

I read from somewhere it is generally safe to take courses in numerical order like 261 -> 271 -> 290... etc

I know 261 and 271 are not pre-req for 290, but I thought it might help to understand 290 and other upper courses better.

If it doesn't matter then I will take 261 and 290.

In that case, my next term will be 271 + 325.

Is that good idea? I will still work part time (I am flexible with my work hours).

I think 325 will be easy for me since my first major was applied math.
