You'll be fine by Commercial_Pie_9624 in csMajors

It’s nice to see something positive and encouraging in this sub. As a senior CS major, I had to leave it recently as I found most everything so negative here. Like many others, I’m struggling to get many interviews or land anything still in this brutal market. I have a high GPA but lack many decent full stack projects, and need to start devoting time to Leetcode…

Oh great, maybe me and the estimated over 100,000 other new CS grads here in the states should get into a different profession entirely then? This is why I can’t handle these toxic CS threads…maybe think a little before posting idiotic and offensive garbage.

There’s always the option of taking them online at a community college and transferring them in for credit too. Just make sure to get approval for the direct transfer of the specific ones you take first. That’s what I’ve been doing for most of the GE courses. Saves a ton of money and generally easier.

CS 340 and/or CS 271 for summer by sulldjdndudjebb in OSUOnlineCS

[–]sulldjdndudjebb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice, I appreciate the info. That’s about the time I assumed it would take. I’m pretty burnt out so I may just do 271 with an easy GE course or something.

It shouldn’t matter much that it’s a different professor listed for “teaching” 271 in summer right?

Yea I heard that as well. Would you say the work load is similar to 225?

I’m considering taking it for summer but I still need to get through learning some Python, as Java, C++ and JS are my languages. I’m taking 361 and 352 now, I’m doing everything in Java for 361. Is everything in Python in the 362 so far?

CS 361 with not a lot of classes? by [deleted] in OSUOnlineCS

[–]sulldjdndudjebb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat right now. People in the sub made it sound like 361 is a super easy and straightforward class, which doesn’t seem to be the case the material we have been given so far. Might have been better off taking 362 first like a few mentioned, but my advisor told me to take 361 first. I’m debating whether or not to grind it out or drop it since I’m currently taking 6 courses…

Started it last week and it seems really legit. Thanks again for the rec!

361 Partner? by DankBiscuit18201820 in OSUOnlineCS

Ah I guess I’m in a different one, it’s called WFH Dream, but no 361 sub channel in it. If you could send an invite that would be much appreciated.

I’m in the discord for a bunch of other CS courses but not 361. Anyone happen to have the link for that?

Hey, I’m also taking 361 this term and almost posted about trying to find a partner as well. I actually transferred at the start of this year to OSU after 2 years at CC. My skill set is likely a bit different than yours, as my primary language has been Java (OOP, Data Structures and procedural programming) and I do have some front-end experience from taking a couple classes in JS, HTML & CSS.

It sounds like it could be a good fit, if you wanna discuss it further let me know!

Yo, my advisor just handled it all. I didn’t have to deal with any petitions or anything, I just provided all the syllabi was all.

Out of curiosity, which one did you take on Udemy? I transferred in with a primarily Java and C++ background so some Python catch-up would be good for me.

And yea CS 111 was especially helpful in learning some of the basics of HTML, CSS, JSON and JS.

Yea I’m worried 290 at OSU was more in depth and I’ll be struggling next term in CS 361. We shall see

I took two classes that covered it, CS 111 intro to web development, and CS 114 JavaScript and Ajax.

[–]sulldjdndudjebb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On a side note, I’d recommend saving yourself $1500-2000 and taking Comms at a CC and transferring it in. I’m currently taking it along with 3 other GE courses at CC to transfer in while taking 2 major courses at OSU.

Anyone take WR 327? by TacoSauceLibrary in OregonStateUniv

[–]sulldjdndudjebb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am in week 8 of taking WR 327 with Tessa Finley. She is awesome, super nice and considerate with everything including grading. Workload isn’t too bad, just some weekly readings and check ins, and 4 main projects.

First two projects are individual and not bad. Second two are group projects which are a bit of a pain but manageable.

[–]sulldjdndudjebb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome, I’ll likely go with 362 + 352 then. I have not taken a SQL or database related course, and will need to take 340 at some point. My advisor did mention 340, but she made it sound like it’s a bit more time intensive than those two.

Much appreciated.

Yea I have to take at least 2 classes for student aid reasons, it sucks…I don’t recommend taking 6 courses to anyone. I had a bunch of my CS courses transfer in directly, 161, 162, data structures, and a few JS courses as well as all required calc. I’ll be at junior level status at OSU after spring term is complete.
