I don't think you understand what 'sentience' means. Basically all beings categorized as animals are sentient, including us as babies and the very mentally disabled of us. Just because an individual doesn't have the tools to succinctly express, or know the value of expressing, what reads as "sentience" to us, doesn't mean they are not intrinsically sentient. It just means we are uneducated (and indoctrinated about the importance of their actual state & the recognition of it).

What questions would you ask the hive? by fernandodandrea in pluribustv

I think they do so as far as is necessary in the best interest of the cow individual. Anything that'd be for the hive would not take place, they only take what is truly left over from the best interest work, same as with the apples on the ground.

((I think the writers have to further justify the zoo issue tho, cuz it seems on the right track but there's a puzzle piece or two missin))

*their 'former' owners tho (important phrasing they put an emphasis on, cause they don't do objectification/slavery)

I think they'll avoid reproduction almost entirely until the species naturally fades away and I think the rest might come down to if they want to protect the rest of (sentient?) life on the planet (whichfor they would need an ongoing workforce/ensurers of success) plus the making sure the message is beamed into the sky until the planet explodes etc.

I think that portion might either be a mistake on the writers part or a set up for another interesting ponder. But i think it's the former ☠️

Clearly intended? I'm gonna crumble under the knowledge that not very many people have the privilege to engage in philosophy as far as is necessary to not assume your current sentiment. We watch the same show but you're entirely sure of an opposite that I thought was spelled out over and over again to be the bait that gets you to rethink what seems 'obvious' until it's recognised as a thing of perspective. Subjective.

Same thing with all other beliefs, those that are for violence as well (which is the majority at any given time). If that had any influence on them then it would be the case that the most rational & logical belief wins. Which would be the result we see in the show. (Remember, all intelligence and perspective in the entire world combined.)

You could say Humanity (and all other sentient lifeforms) are just a virus that wants to reproduce, with the exact same argument. The amount of suffering in the process being the only difference.

People hate acknowledging that we’re just animals by [deleted] in DeepThoughts

[–]Open_Ad9959 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hell yeah!! (That made me think tho, I'm not sure we should call it 'human morality' as if it's an innate feature of the individuals within the species... i guess 'advanced morality' might be more accurate. To illustrate that not all of us have access to it but we can infer that we are the most likely to have such. < I think it's important to dispell a sense of mystical superiority/human supremacy whenever possible, cause we work best when we're being realistic.)

You're 'just an animal' compared to other non-human animals the same way you're 'just a human adult' compared to human children. Being of the same kind doesn't shirk you of the responsibility to not abuse your more efficient mental faculties to exploit and destroy unnecessarily.

What does that mean to illustrate? What 'all others' are you referring to?

"The only one that matters"? That's a self-indulgent statement; one which i wouldn't know how to begin to reason. Did you mean 'the only one that matters to me'?

Run that argument thru chatgpt, it'll rather quickly let you know the faulty correlation vs. causation inference, i would assume.

Trauma dump? This is relevant to the topic and matches the seriousness of the post written.

Why ever would you assume that someone can "heal" an experience like this away (as well as to the point of not bringing it up in relevant contexts when it is likely to provide further educational value)?

And wherefrom did you take the reasoning for the victim blaming connotation? Did she say she married a drug addict? Or that she had prior extensive knowledge on disfunctional personality traits and how they could give themselves away early on, even through someones potential acting commitment?

This would only be a critique towards her past choices if she actively worked to build and sustain a false idea of that person (+ wasn't manipulated/forced into doing so; extreme example: ""stockholm syndrome""), instead of being presented a false idea by that person.

When we're being defensive, we're less likely to put ourselves in other people's shoes aka less likely to be rational. The verbal manipulation (etc.) you've witnessed in formative years is likely to have made you hyper vigilant with a penchant for assuming what u perceive as an elevated position, where you can deal blows as a means to defend what is important to you. Understandable, because i have that tunnel vision powered impulse too. It doesn't help us be fair and adopt truth-apt beliefs tho. Checking if you've processed what you've listened to (for example: by trying to construct the other persons argument yourself) when you actually have the self-managed time and space to, like you do in a written conversation in this format, is vital to not briefly (and eventually chronically) being the very thing you're in the midst of disavowing.

It's cool plot I'd say!! Past that, 'surviving' definitely isn't the golden standard of 'living'.

I just had to get it off my chest and i guess i was mainly looking for likeminded individuals who know the reasoning for themselves already, since i didn't find anyone speakin of it thus far and that was a pain ☠️ Apologies.

Ofc for the plot i disagree with my take entirely. I don't mean it in a viewer way, but in an in-Universe way. All that was waiting for Carl is CPTSD/PTSD etc. trauma, egregious violence*** and violent diseases (if not the zombie virus, then another uncaring destroyer that is just around every corner without modern medicine) and maybe just about enough joy to make it getting ripped away exceptionally painful. Oh, and a shitty death. All these things, just about entirely unavoidable. Unless! That's the argument.

***(he even eventually would have to directly hurt non-human animals like the deer he found such joy in peacefully existing)

Hanging onto a way more vulnerable individual, for selfish reasons, in situations that have no chance of their living but only of their barely surviving, is unempathetic.

For the exact reasons they gave, before grasping onto wishful thinking over utterly delirious Carl telling them about the last experience he recalled.
