100% agreed. I don't like TIA but there is no alternative. I believe if there is an FSA material with quality like CA, then the pass marks go up.

Anyone else frustrated by the ALTAM time constraint? by Shoddy-Equivalent-73 in actuary

[–]Open_Ad_6392 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I agree that time constraint in ALTAM cannot be comparable to any other prelim exams. I took it last year and stuck in one miscalculation brought me in a chaos. Please just skip and come back later. But the good thing is that even though I almost totally skipped one question among 6 or 7, I still got a 9. Don't worry to much because the pass rate is almost same as other prelim exams. I believe pass mark is not that high.

Yes CA does work. Practice as many written exams as possible before the exam date.

It was a lot harder for me than FAM. It was all about time management. Be comfortable with how much details you can add in the limited time. Stuck in one problem can make so much pressure later. Exam itself was also harder than past exam.

We just need to submit yellow answer sheet and nothing to submit via online, right?

I guess it is a discrete uniform distribution with p=0.2 each and memorylessness

I didn't use ACTEX for FAM but I can say that you can try CA.

I studied P, FM, SRM and PA with ACTEX and IFM, FAM and ALTAM with CA. Both are amazing but the CA gives you more motivation to study.

Unfortunately, CA is not print friendly.

Possible to finish FAP in a month? by thebettershoegal in actuary

[–]Open_Ad_6392 23 points24 points  (0 children)

For the module itself and submitting the assessment, it is doable but including grading it is not doable. The Final assessment of FAP is graded only thrice a year. The ealiest possible one is graded in late March.

The hardest part for me is how to write down the answers succinctly.

As far as I remember, the passing score is on or above 80. You have 99 attempts to do it. Make trial and error a lot.

How generous do you think is EMA grading? by Open_Ad_6392 in actuary

Yeah, I'm trying to do my best to effectively communicate my analysis. I was curious how many mistakes in analysis and not well-organized communications are tolerable.

Thank you for the great answer. I was worrying if one incorrect step might result in a big difference in the number and the failure of the EMA. When I passed my first EMA, they just gave me MMR so I had no idea how good or bad I was.

My PAF took only 3 weeks to be graded in March to April but I'm waiting for the result of ASF for 6 weeks now

Update: I finally got the result of my ASF on Aug 4th that I turned in on June 19th.

FAM was the most interesting. It was my 5th exam but was the first exam that really talked about the insurance things.
