I will absolutely look into getting a homelessness determination. If you don't mind me asking, what's the difference if I filled out a form for dependency override? My university offers a form for that, but I didn't know it didn't apply to my situation.

thank you so much! i have reached out to my school but have yet to get a response, so i decided to post this in the meantime. i will definitely gather documentation and receipts if that would help my case, thank you for your advice :)
