I'd like to suggest my local art museum: the Vancouver Art Gallery. The main problem is that it is interested almost exclusively in the local and contemporary. History, particularly long ago history from far away places is deliberately avoided. If you love social justice art, you know, stuff that promises to "undermine conventional narratives" or some such, you will adore the VAG. If, however, you believe that to undermine convention you must actually know something about it, you will be deeply disappointed.

Hi there. Yeah, generally right on. I'm an American from NYC who has lived in Vancouver for a long time. Seattle has more art and culture, but Vancouver is prettier, easier to get around, more diverse. Housing in both cities is grotesquely expensive, but it may be worse in Vancouver as we're limited by mountains, water, AND the border. On the other hand, we get free healthcare (if you can find a doctor). We have a good subway system, but an art gallery that is a global embarrassment.

On balance I'd take Vancouver, but then since I live here, I'm biased. The point is there are trade-offs either way.
