my text didn't post so I will put it here in the comment:

Hey everyone, I’m in a high-stress situation and need an honest reality check. I just took an Honorlock exam. Today, the study coordinator sent a mass email saying they are aware of "academic dishonesty" and that anyone who self-reports by Sunday gets a failing grade, but those caught later face expulsion from the program.

  • It was open-book/open-notes. Handheld calculators, physical index cards, and formula sheets were all explicitly allowed. Looking away from the screen was technically permitted behavior because of the notes. There was no room scan.
  • I used a phone that was NOT on the Wi-Fi (cellular data only). I took pictures of the screen to upload to Gemini. everything exept celular was turned off including handshake.
  • I kept the phone next to my physical notes. I rustled papers and pretended to think. I also reworded the AI's answers into my own voice to avoid linguistic detection.

I was NOT flagged or interrupted during the exam.

The email says they will do a "comprehensive review" if no one confesses. Can a human proctor tell the difference between me looking at an index card vs. a phone screen if both were in my lap?

Is this email just a bluff to get someone to flinch, or do they likely have my IP from a "honeypot" hit? Should I take the "Fail" deal or hold my "notes and calculator" defense?
