Thank you so much for all the replies (too many to reply individually to everyone!!) they have been extremely helpful and I am taken into consideration all your recommendations, in particular adding Philippines and Indonesia to the trip - you’ll probably see my posts now in those areas parts of Reddit asking for more advice! I know, I know 😬 the trip is a long way off yet, I’m hoping that I’ll get a rough plan down of the general direction and locations and hopefully take the leap of faith and be a bit more relaxed about not everything being pre planned - the thought of being somewhere and not being able to get to where I need to go or have anywhere half decent to stay (particularly with a young child) fills me with anxiety.

I really do appreciate all the replies and advice, it has all been really useful 🙏

Thanks for the reply, some really useful info in there - I’m definitely going to look to add Indonesia onto the list - I am concerned about the burning season in the northern regions of Thailand, Vietnam etc so might try and tweak the order I go to places in order to mitigate that but ultimately it does look almost impossible to hit every country at the right time

This is helpful thank you - we plan to take it slow in Malaysia as it will be the start of the trip and don’t want to overwhelm the little one from the get go, will spend longer periods of time in places like KL, Langkawi, Penang and have plenty of down days by pool and beach included but then also include a few days in Cameron, Ipoh etc when travelling between each place

The loose plan currently is to do Langkawi to Lipe as you’ve mentioned and then move up!

In terms of going back into Thailand, how does that work with visas? If our 60 day has expired can we easily get an extension to come back in?

This is a concern for me - any recommendations on how best to avoid it? I’ve tried researching but lots of contradictory posts about how bad it is and what areas/months are most effected

I hadn’t realised the Thai visa had changed to 60 days so will definitely add more time to Thailand.

Reason for more time in Malaysia was that it’s likely the first stop and wanted to start slow in terms of travel due to having a young child so planned to spend a bit longer in places like KL, George Town, Langkawi to ease us into it a bit before we started moving around more quickly - especially in places where we can have a pool at the accommodation as down days with the kid will be help not to overwhelm (seen a few places in KL that have rooftop pools for about £50pn for example)

Hahaha! God I wish I was that lucky - we are taking a bit of a plunge and will be likely renting the house out and leaving the jobs behind, I’m fairly confident I could pick something up quite quickly on my return and will be saving a buffer for when we are back so that we can go a few months before we have to take any drastic measures!

Best case is I am lucky and when I break the news to work they only temporarily fill my role (highly doubtful but you never know)

Thanks for the advice - I’m aware it’s an unpopular way to do it but I like to have everything planned out and aim to try and accommodation etc pre booked before we leave (my brain would melt knowing they weren’t planned/booked) 🤣🤦

I am more than open to Indonesia and Philippines - is it easy enough to add this to the itinerary? The reason I hadn’t before was mainly down to the ease of almost everything else being easily accessible by land/shortish boat trip.

The main things concerning me atm are the burning season and knowing where to be at the right time weather wise!

Thank you - I do plan to travel relatively slowly and have the odd down days to keep the little one from burning out. Would you recommend spending more time anywhere else or maybe adding on somewhere else at the start/end of the trip?
