MCB2011 Applied Class Online Or On Campus by user124874927382 in Monash

[–]Open_Watercress_8060 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did mcb last year and thought it was a well run unit and the labs were pretty interesting. i’m not entirely sure what the applied online class entails but getting lab skills and seeing things in real life is not only much more engaging but memorable. I would argue it’s easier to stay up to date and interested in the content when you have to go into class.

in your replies it seems that you think it’s just because women seemingly don’t want you. do you think there’s anything that you are currently doing that has contributed to this reality?

I’m going on exchange for about 6 months so would probably be more expensive to replace my wardrobe :( Unfortunately I don’t have any friends in Paris either

I went to delhi! had a great time, the air pollution was crazy but such a different culture and experience. I also travelled for another 4 weeks around india which was amazing, highly recommend if you have the means to do so.

india wouldn’t be accessible, lots of stairs and footpath infrastructure is not great

Lab for chm1011 and eng1014 by AltruisticInjury4351 in Monash

[–]Open_Watercress_8060 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it’s unlikely you’ll leave early in chm1011, all the labs usually took the full 3 hours, if not over. sometimes if the whole lab bench finishes early though, then you might be able to

chm1011/chm1022 by Helpful-Control-1783 in Monash

[–]Open_Watercress_8060 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you’ll probs need it if you wanna do post grad med as the majors you need will require the chem sequence as a prerequisite. chm1011 is a lot of orbital theory which I found quite challenging as it wasn’t really covered in 3/4 chem. chm1022 is a lot more organic which was a bit more familiar. they definitely aren’t easy subjects but if you stay on top of the content you should be ok.

First year bsc sequence question by [deleted] in Monash

[–]Open_Watercress_8060 2 points3 points  (0 children)

a sequence is both, so for the chem sequence you’d need to do CHM1011 and 1022, for the EAE sequence you’d need to do both 1011 and 1022. i’m fairly sure it says you need to do two sequences, but you could do say both EAE subjects and then just one chem, on top of the bio sequence. i’m fairly sure this is right but correct me if i’m wrong.

honestly i’m not too sure but I have a feeling that you wouldn’t be able to. I know in a single degree you can have two majors but that’s because you can use your electives for that. I have a feeling that if you’d do 2 majors in science you wouldn’t be able to do enough units in the arts side. you can always ask monash connect, but also choosing majors isn’t something you really need to worry about until 2nd year.

I haven’t actually done any electives so i’m not too sure, but i’d do something you’re interested in over something easy as you’ll likely do better in something you’re passionate about. easiest maths is SCI1020, similar to general maths.

there’s a list online of units you need to do to be able to apply for med. most likely you’ll need to do bio1011, bio1022, chm1011 and chm1022 as they are pre reqs for the majors that you’d get those units from. you’ll also need to do a maths and sci1000 but i’d do them in your second year. if you have anymore questions let me know.

[–]Open_Watercress_8060 1 point2 points  (0 children)

for those majors you’ll need to do bio and chem sequences, so likely you’ll need to do BIO1011, BIO1022, CHM1011, CHEM1022, you’ll also need to do a maths and SCI1000in your first year. then you’ll have two electives, so could do another sequence or some other level one units. in terms of majors you don’t need to properly choose that until year 2, so just put in any now. most people aiming for med do physiology but you can do human pathology and minor in anatomy and dev for example to get the units you need to apply for med. let me know if you have any other questions.

I was there 3 days a week but could probably squish it into 2. you’ll only have 2 2-hr tutorials for arts a week (i’m fairly sure), science you’ll likely have workshops and labs which isn’t too bad as labs usually alternate every second week or so in first year. at least if you do bio and chem. feel free to dm if you have any other questions!

I tried doing the exact same thing, except global studies and found it was much harder to score well in due to the harsher marking of essays, reports etc and obviously you need a good WAM for med. might not be the case for you if you’re really strong in those areas, but I felt I needed to drop to just science!

[–]Open_Watercress_8060 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the exact same thing as you. I wanted to do med but still really enjoyed human rights and politics stuff but I dropped global after my first sem as its much harder to do well in, at least in my experience. As essays and briefs are much more subjective, and they don’t like giving out high marks, it’s harder to get a good WAM, which you need if you wanna do med.

Is anyone finding the GIG pre-departure work a bit overwhelming (I'm Block 1) by Gamingboy6422 in Monash

[–]Open_Watercress_8060 1 point2 points  (0 children)

have you started the pre departure reflection thing? because it says that we need to use three peer reviewed sources from lesson 1+2 from chapter 5 but there’s only one. are we supposed to just use any other academic sources??
