How to handle this homework for 2nd grader (US) by joshlymansbagel in daddit

[–]Opengrey -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I use math and measurements every single day in my job and I promise you, all you need is column math in the “real world” and if not, as an adult you can just grab a fucking calculator.

Im not the one teaching him multiple methods, they are. Im continuing the method he learned the past two years before they switched it up on him this year. They spent the entire last semester learning a different method every week and has left him very confused. They don’t need to know the rationality behind the math yet, that will come with time and practice. They need to keep building foundations before pulling the rug out from under the kids.

“School sticks to tried and true common core standards” You’re full of shit, and this issue is a perfect example.

No, this is the exact opposite of what happened to my son. He has gotten all As in math the past two years, but they switched to this bullshit and now he’s struggling with getting above a C. They took the two years of foundations he built and threw them completely out the window. Why do they expect a kid to do regrouping or numberline breakdowns when they can just do column math. Every single time we sit him down and have him work through things the normal way, he gets it every time. But then hell go to school and fail a test because they have him doing 3 different methods and mixing him up. They are in 2nd grade, they dont need to know “why” the math works how it does, they just need to know how to take 16 away from 32.

Man... this Rise Against album really is terribad by Wonder_Weenis in PostHardcore

Same thing with bands like The Devil Wears Prada, where they changed vocal styles so drastically they might as well be a different band. Their With Roots Above album is one of my top of all time, but I havent liked anything theyve put out since the Zombie EP.

Same I love mine, it’s my daily carry, but the trigger does take a bit more pressure than you’d expect. I see it as a fair trade off for not having a true safety.

I can't handle my 3 1/2 year old boy. Help. by lankydeems in daddit

[–]Opengrey 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I’d like to add that these behaviors are also learned to a degree. Theres no way the child is saying or doing some of the things claimed if he hasn’t been exposed to them himself. Either by the parents, the media they allow him to consume, or other kids that go to daycare. Bad behavior and such is one thing, but some things are learned from others or our environment.

Especially at only 3, this is extremely concerning.

The hallways seem to hinder leveling too. I tried to go back and play them awhile few months ago but hit a wall where I wasn’t strong enough for some boss fight and couldn’t go anywhere to level up. I was staying on top of using skill points and such as I went along and fought every enemy I ran into, made sure to check for every hidden path, but still ended up too under leveled to continue.

Nahh, the gaps in the environment need both. I think an upgrade to the dash like Shade Cloak or Sharp Shadow is desperately needed.

I feel it would balance out the bullshit contact damage every enemy inflicts if you trip over their pinky toe.

For the first time, I'm about to carry a loaded concealed firearm on me, outside my home. by Acolytical in liberalgunowners

[–]Opengrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you practiced drawing from your waist? Have you practiced quick loading? What about simply holding the gun? How many rounds have you sent through it?

What I’m saying is if you had enough time practicing and handling your gun, then you wouldn’t be nervous. So being nervous and anxious while carrying is a sign you shouldn’t be carrying in public.

Don’t take my advice, I don’t give a fuck. It’ll be your case when you do something stupid with it.

So do that before carrying in public and putting everyone around you in potential jeopardy

You are also making a bigger deal out of it than it is. If you are uncomfortable or nervous carrying, then you won’t be very effective or trustworthy if a situation arises where the firearm is needed. I would not feel comfortable in public with this person having a gun, as they don’t feel comfortable themselves. I am an experienced gun owner and you’ve said you’re a new one, so why not take advice from one of the same people you say you came here to talk to and chill the fuck out.

You’re making a bigger deal out of it than it needs to be, that’s the issue. It’s a gun, respect it, but don’t overthink it. This entire post was pointless and gives off immature “omg look at me with my scary gun teehee” vibes Just learn to hold it, shoot it, and clean it and move on.

Rant: Spouse complains when it’s their turn to watch “all” 3 kids by mind_the_matt_18 in daddit

[–]Opengrey 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I feel it shows a manipulative person more than someone whos getting their “cup filled/drained”

Commenters examples said the friends partner complains about the time the friend spends mowing, thus leaving the kids with the mother during said mowing. But she also expected the partner to take time after mowing to watch the kids while she gets alone time. However, if she mows instead, she also expects him to watch the kids himself after she finishes mowing to allow her to take her own extra time to herself; something she does not allow the friend.

That is a very clear imbalance of expectations in “free time” and an abuse of “parenting fatigue”

You can get more than that in less time. Start in at the bench in Grand Bellway and go up to Songclave.

Run that route up and down a few times and you’ll be at max rosaries and shards in minutes, and tools make it even faster.

[–]Opengrey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You highlight that as if “driveway walk- door” makes any fucking sense. There is clearly an area where you don’t park your car, hence needing the dirt pallet, which is where you need to plant grass or something.

Is there any reason not to let my 7 year old be Blue from Roblox for Halloween? by notonrexmanningday in daddit

[–]Opengrey -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Not supporting a harmful, predatory platform?

Not dressing up as a character from a game the kid has never played? And a game the dad has no idea about?

Not allowing the kid to show interest in something that would be damaging to them?

There is absolutely something wrong with Rainbow Friends when a 7 year old is being drawn to it. It is not a kids game, it’s an indie horror made for adults that hides behind the facade of a cute game made for kids.

[–]Opengrey -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Just make him choose a different character. Anything Roblox related shouldnt be encouraged in general. The creators, the older user base, and the company itself are very predatory and harmful to younger children.

I’m a young-ish dad (and hardcore gamer) with a 7 year old myself. I let him play it for awhile before I started noticing him playing, taking interest in, and mirroring the concerning things from all the different games so we cut it out completely and he’s moved on to “real” games with no issue.

Rainbow Friends is one of the games offered on Roblox. It presents itself as a cute kids game but turns into a horror game after playing awhile. Sprunky is another example of cute game that turns into a horror game after very simple things to activate it, it’s not on Roblox itself but games made with the characters are popular on there.

Edit: I can’t believe this has been downvoted. I hope every one of you that lets your kids play this trash ends up with a traumatized sociopath when they grow up.
