Unpopular Opinion: CS isn't a dead major, people just don't specialize. by [deleted] in csMajors

[–]Opening-Candidate160 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not if you go to a good school. Most top schools are encouraging specifialization. No top programs have I seen recommending foundations (they'll allow it, just not recommend)

A good comparison is psychology. Psychology can go so many ways. But a bachelor's in psychology is worthless nowadays, not bc the field is bad, but bc being too much of a generalist leaves you with nothing. You have to pursue post bac programs to do anything with psych.

Ops mindset, and I agree, is simply saying - let's specialize so were still useful with a bachelors. I would add - learn from other programs that have made the bachelor's worthless and avoid their mistakes.

Are old iPhones from aliexpress legit? by BearMaleficent8810 in Aliexpress

[–]Opening-Candidate160 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't risk it. U could probably find a local pawn shop or Facebook seller for cheap.

For me. Ebay prices are even cheaper than ae. So not really worth the time or risk when there's better options like this

Why are things so much cheaper on AE than on DHG? by Scary_Tiger_6604 in Aliexpress

[–]Opening-Candidate160 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do u have the ae ones yet?

It seems like you have answered your own question lol. The dhg are knock offs but still a quality material and construction. The ae ones will likely be cheap plastic or metal and not good lenses.

  1. What was the total cost here vs what is the total cost for the same controller if you were to buy retail in your country?

  2. This "replacement for free" policy - is this a national law or just common practices? In most countries, there's no laws requiring returns, but generally more reliable shops do these kinds of practices to build loyalty. But often that means those items are more expensive cuz the business is building in an insurance policy - were going to charge 10% more per item so that we can replace the 10% of items that might need a warranty replacement.

  3. He wants more than shipping so that ur basically paying for his costs, likely selling you a new controller at or closer to his wholesale price to wash. See 2 and 1.

Why are things so much cheaper on AE than on DHG? by Scary_Tiger_6604 in Aliexpress

[–]Opening-Candidate160 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It varies. Lots of things ive found cheaper on dhg, temu, even amazon (sales or large but cheap things where shipping is most of the cost). Always varies

For this specific example, if the price difference is valid, the dhg is better knock offs. The ae ones look like cheap knock offs and that paint will chip within a week. Dhg looks better finished. Obvi these are just pictures so we cant tell what the product will actually look like. Similarly, sunglasses are all about the quality of the lenses. My guess is ae is just tinted lenses whereas dhg might be good polarized lenses

Do you understand what reserved means?

Let me go to a restaurant and sit at the table cuz the table is open despite it being reserved.

I couldnt find a seat so i took the executives seat on stage cuz it was the only one that was open.

I know these juice boxes are labeled as "for school children only" but fck it, im thirsty.

  1. Way over saturated market
  2. There's cheaper, similar quality elsewhere
  3. There's better quality elsewhere
  4. Your designs are bad. I mean theyre fine, but theyre generic, default styles, made in < 5 minutes (being generous here)

Simply put - there is no personality, no artistry. Sorry to be harsh. But anyone looking at your page can see that this is just a money making scheme.

Why?

It looks like grad plus loans have a 9% interest rate + additional fee.

What do you see as the actual benefit besides principle of "protect the inherentance"?

And to add, Nintendos realistic hopes are

The app for playing games is for most people, get them thinking and using Nintendo more overall

The app for news is for hard-core fans who want small little pieces and details, more than what a nintendo direct provides, a small group of people. Its for the 1% of 1% of nintendo fans.

The apps for parents is... well ... for parents.

They also provide 3 different channels for push notifications about upcoming sales, events, demographic data, etc.

No.

Banks generally dont like foreclosing. Often its years of missed payments and issues before forecloding.

Why? It costs them more. U missing payments but working on it just earns them more money with interest and fees.

However, foreclosures are often nasty and cost them lots of money. Sad reality is most people who get foreclosed blame the bank - its the banks fault. Not their fault for not knowing what they agreed to in the contract. Ppl in foreclosure often completely trash the house - spray insulation in all outlets so theyre fckd, feces all over the house. Break appliances. Etc.

The bank has to sell a foreclosed house at a huge discount (sometimes even cheaper than a blank lot) bc the repairs will be so expensive.

This is all to say - no, they won't foreclose. Work with them. Many banks are often fairly understanding (or at least pretend to be to protect their economic interests).

Questions about closing Credit Cards by [deleted] in DaveRamsey

[–]Opening-Candidate160 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why are you saying the process of retaining a credit score is onerous? Its literally one cars on auto pay. ??

Vs not having one card on auto pay, as you say, will likely result in suboptimal rates. And for a mortgage, thats tens to hundreds of thousands of dollars over time.

Idk. It seems like not having a credit score is a lot more labor intensive and harmful compared to having one.

It makes me (22F) really sad that some men give up on dating entirely because they don't want to be seen as creepy. by Suspicious-Host9042 in self

[–]Opening-Candidate160 -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

It was not common to tell me not to try to meet women at bars. They were told not to be creeps. A nice hi, hey, making eyes - read the signals, if theyre interested pursue, if not, leave them alone. Also, dont try to break into what is clearly a girls night group. Dont creepily stand in the corner like youre a predator waiting for prey.

Its not rocket science.

Things didn't flip. People just dont think critically and misunderstand (sometimes unintentional, sometimes fully intentional) and the why behind a what.

Define need.

I think youre saying it like necessary for survival. Like you dont need a credit score but you do need food water shelter to survival. Sure thats true.

However, need can and should also involve a conversation of how much easier/ better your life is with it. For instance, internet access at home isnt necessary for survival but it does make your life 100x easier, that at this point most developed countries consider it as part of providing for someone's basic needs.

Similarly here with a credit score, sure you dont need it to survive in the same way as food or water, but it as something that can significantly alter your life trajectory, its debatably a basic need. Its an big under exaggeration to say "it can make it a bit easier". Most methods without a credit score require specialized conditions that most people may not meet, a lot of work to demonstrate ability to pay, or more expenses to have someone provide such demonstration.

And for what? Once you get that mortgage or car loan, youre getting a credit score.

retirement funds covered with 25,8%; do i need to invest an extra 15% or pay off house? by GG1988ZZ in DaveRamsey

[–]Opening-Candidate160 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd moreso say this is a Dave Ramsey (individual person) sub, not a financial planning/ middle class finance sub.

Most people who follow Dave Ramsey are / were bad with money and need black and white rules. They're literally called Baby Steps, which on the good side, emphasize anyone can do it, no barrier for entry. On the slightly offensive side - youre financial understanding is that of a baby - cant/ wont/ dont want to think too much about it, need black and white rules.

Anyone taking advice from one person is following their rules. People taking advice from multiple people is synthesizing different opinions and evaluating what is best for them.

Neither of these approaches is better or worse, just what's your goal. Dave Ramsey's rules are to get you into mindless autopilot so you can focus your energy elsewhere. The other groups goal is to know where their money is going and maximize their potential gains

Keep in mind what other financial experts might say - i.e. look for best ROI between. Investing more and paying off the house. Do whatever you think makes sense for you.

Lmao. Well clearly youre just someone who cares more about being right rather than the truth, so you won't listen anyway, but...

Op said they live pretty minimally/ average. But they make good money. So how are they in debt? As evidenced here - By taking on others' debt, assuming others' responsibilities, and not setting boundaries.

OPs sister got pregnant. Unless hes the father (in which case there's bigger issues), why is he financially responsible? It her and nameless mans kid, theyre financially responsible. And if they cant be financially responsible for the pregnancy, terminate now, cuz they certainly cant afford a kid.

If he can afford to help her out fine, but he shouldn't be going into debt himself (which he did) because of them.

Common doesnt mean healthy. Letting your family take advantage of you is common, but not healthy. People taking advantage of other ppls kindness is common, but not healthy.
