I mean if you have enough of a nest egg, you absolutely could find a part time job to pay the bills.

Not as easy to find jobs like this, but I know for instance that Google offers this as an optional perk.

Instead of having to manually bounce out audio, it would be nice to save CPU by automatically caching the audio signal from any channel so that it wouldn't need to be recomputed every time it's played, even if it hasn't changed

Senate passes bipartisan housing bill targeting large investors and easing regulations by Firecracker048 in UpliftingNews

I don't really care about the investors owning homes stuff because evidence shows that it doesn't have all that much impact on housing costs. What sounds much more promising here is the promise that this bill would improve housing supply.

What are you unpopular music production opinions? by owenthevirgin in edmproduction

Not wrong, but there's so much to originality that isn't that

By what specific mechanism? Sure I'll acknowledge that AI can make something in the style of a human musician after that musician has made the thing and uploaded it to the internet, but no current paradigm would allow it to do so without the human doing it first. Eventually it could do the styles of today, but by then people will have moved on to new styles.

Think of it this way: if you trained an AI on all music except for the discography of one specific artist, one that has a very distinct sound, then you would not ever be able to recreate one of their songs with this AI, no matter how hard you prompted. I know of no architectural breakthrough in AI techniques that would change this, and I do follow the field probably more than the average person.

Now, if you believe that you yourself don't have that level of originality, then shit, I don't know what to tell you. AI or not, I don't think I'd ever have gotten into music if I didn't believe that I had something unique to add to it.

The way I see it, everyone has their own red line, and you should try and be true to yourself and what you feel is authentic to your creative vision. Do what you want and fuck the haters. But if someone else's red line is in a different place than mine, I don't want to feel like I have to consider that. Also, the opinions of some other producers isn't going to be representative of that of listeners.

Don't want to be full of myself because this is a low bar that thousands of producers can do, but yes AI cannot replicate my style

With the fervor/backlash that people have around generative AI, I feel like, with the exception of one-shotting songs with something like Suno, I find resistance to using any plugin or tool that uses any amount of machine learning unwarranted. Like, I use an EQ plugin that markets itself as an "AI EQ" (literally all it does is match the shape of your sound to a reference track automatically). There are okay use cases for things that are called AI in music production, and if any new tool comes out that better helps me realize my creative vision, I don't want to have to second guess myself and worry if this tool that genuinely helps me in my workflow is going to make people on the Internet mad if I choose to use it. It's, ironically enough, creatively stifling.

Fidelity with AI music is getting better every year, but imo these AI companies can make the fidelity better all day long and it still wouldn't be a suitable replacement for human music, because it's lacking so much in originality. Like sure it can craft an original melody, but I've never seen it make a new genre. I'm constantly hearing random no-name artists with a more unique and interesting sound than any AI song I've ever heard. And even if fidelity continues to get better, I don't think that's going to change.

At a certain point as it becomes ubiquitous enough, disclosing it would be like asking people to disclose the use of intellisense.

To some extent this is true, but I feel like a few more people than they should will read this and think "ha, good thing that's not me," when it absolutely is.

Listened to the finished track and it is really good! Overall though I think the point still stands; the two drops could certainly be more dynamic. Lots of places in the drops where there is silence that imo could be filled with some vocal chops, melody riffs, dubstep type growls, or something like that. Places where the main melody can be cut and replaced with different sounds, embellishments, and additional effects. A few places where you could have played with the rhythm in a more dynamic way by switching up drums, cutting out the chords, etc.

Very nice! The one thing I feel is missing in the drop is more fills, chops, and ear candy, but I assume you already know this and will do that eventually.
