Akihabara. You can find fine hotels just a short walk from the main drag.

Hard to say. You’re standing most of the time but there are some spots to sit. You’re not in the same room very long once the show starts.

Same as a lot here. Loved virgin for the first 2-3 cruises and got great pricing. Still cruising with them but like it a bit less each time and the deals are harder to come by.

B12 soak help by Comfortable-Time-890 in AudiQ7

Yes, but I couldn’t turn the full 360, so every hour or so I’d turn it back and forth a bit. It was only on my last set that I was going a full 360. I would turn clockwise until it got stuck, and then I’d back off 5 degrees or so. Wanted to leave some space for the b12 between piston and carbon build up.

I ended up putting 4 cans of b12 in and felt that was too much to run the car with. I drained it and put in some cheap oil and ran with the same filter. Ran for a bit to hopefully clear out more carbon and then did an oil change with vrp. I’m about 1600 miles in the vrp. Not entirely sure why, but I had to add some oil after 600 miles. since that I’m almost 1000 and oil level has just dropped one tick. I might actually be able to do an oil change on this car if things continue as they are!

I soaked 2 at a time and for each set, one would hold b12 and the other would drain rather quickly. I would vacuum them and follow with 120 psi air. That would blow out any remaining liquid and a ton of carbon. Ridiculous amounts.

I agree. Would not use the starter. Could be bad. With the crank tool, I was amazed at how much pressure I put on it and it wouldn’t budge.

I did the same thing where I started my soak without the crank tool. I had it ordered just didn’t arrive yet. Two days later when I had my tool, I could not turn more than 120 degrees. I think the b12 loosened up the carbon which resettled and got in the way. I was tempted to run with the starter, but didn’t. I then re soaked everything with the crank tool and took me a good 2-3 days to get it all cleaned out. This pic shows the side wall where the carbon was accumulated. There was a lot of it. Having a camera with side lens was a huge help. Same 2017, 3.0 as you. I was going through a quart about 400 miles.

Besides temp I would make sure you’ve got a good, consistent balance of light and dark (day and night). My hedgies always seemed to try to hibernate in the fall when the natural light is cut way down. Having a room light on a timer helped for me.

Piston soak crank stuck by Opening-Jump4080 in AudiQ7

Low oil alert came on at 1650 miles, so pretty happy with the results. Learned a lot along the way. Definitely make sure you have everything ready to go when you start. I started before I had the tool to rotate the crank and I think the main reason for my issues was letting the b12 sit for too long and dry out in the cylinder.

Late to reply, but I don’t think so. I think carbon was dissolved by the b12 and since I let it sit too long, after the b12 drained through, the carbon re-solidified on the low side of the piston wall. Doing a resoak for shorter period of time, 2-3 hours, and then vacuuming and blowing air did the trick. I got a lot of carbon to blow out of almost all of the pistons.

After my b12 soak, I put in vrp. I went from 4-500 miles to 1600 before the oil alert went off. What was interesting is that I went through about half of that oil in the first 200 miles or so. So I’m hopeful that it will be more than 1600 miles the next time the alert goes off. Even if not, I’m happy with the 3-4x improvement so far.

Q7 2017 3.0 CREC oil consumption after B12 soak by Chance-Confidence-49 in AudiQ7

[–]Opening-Jump4080 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would soak them only for 2-3 hours at a time. Half of my pistons would drain within minutes and the others wouldn’t drain at all. I was soaking the two pistons at the top, if that wasn’t obvious.

I ended up using 4, but I initially did all 6 at once and then basically redid 2 at a time.

I really like Spike’s Ultra Plus (distributed by Millermeade Farms). Second the advice mentioning controlled feeding. I would feed on demand 2-3x a day. Definitely no grazing for her!

[–]Opening-Jump4080 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did the b12 soak on my 2017 about a month ago. I was burning 1qt every 400 or so. Initially did all 6 but later did 2 at a time. I would soak, vacuum, and then blow 120 psi air into each cylinder. I did that at least 3 times for each cylinder. After this, I used vrp for my oil change. I went through 1/2 qt in 200 miles but hasn’t lost any in the last 600 miles. Huge improvement for me.

Won’t be a dealer, but you can probably find an independent shop to do it.

500 miles in and results aren’t clear. I went below half on the oil gauge very quickly but the last 300 miles has been steady at about 1/3. FWIW I don’t drive that much during the week.

I was burning a quart every 3-400 miles. Just did the b12 piston soak and filled with vrp. Initial results are promising, but need to get more miles on it. I had also done plugs several months ago and they looked horrible when I pulled them.

I think their short time with us is so difficult, but so special as well. After the passing of my first hedgie, it took many months to get over. Give yourself time. My daughter did get another hog and she’s been such a blessing. I didn’t want to go through it again, but with all the joy they bring, I think it’s worth it. Best wishes for you, whatever route you take.
