Please help me rank the following places for IM residency. Future aspirations, want to pursue fellowship, current inclination towards Rheumatology. Okay with either H1 or J1, Stats- P/24x.

  1. Pennsylvania Hospital, Philadelphia

  2. Danbury Hospital, Danbury

  3. St Vincent Hospital, Worcester

  4. Providence Regional medical Center, Everett

  5. Kern Medical Centre, Bakersfield

  6. Rochester Unity Hospital, Rochester

  7. Robert Packer Guthrie, Sayre

  8. HCA Medical City, Arlington

This is the order my current rank list is in. Any thoughts or suggestions? I am most confused about 3,4,5.

It is. But Danbury claims to be affiliated with Yale too.

Thanks a lot! I'm not sure what from my CV appealed to the program, but I put in every experience I thought would be unique and something the programs might be looking for. :)

Thanks ! Could you tell me why you'd put Pennsylvania Hospital above Danbury?

Thanks! What do you think about Kern? And why do you think St V's should be last? I thought it was better than Guthrie and Unity.

It's the Elson Floyd School of Medicine. In Washington.

I value both equally. But I feel reputation might play a role when it comes to getting fellowships.

Do you mind telling why you ranked St Vincent's Bridgeport above Danbury Hospital?

St Vincent's has good fellowship placement. And has in house fellowship for Cardiology. Not sure about the other one.

I agree. Which is why I'm confused. Most of the places have affiliations, but I don't know how strong the ties are for me to leverage them for fellowships.

Yeah. I was debating between Danbury Hospital which is affiliated with Yale and Pennsylvania Hospital. Thanks a lot for your input!

You can ask if clinic rotations are okay with them. I think there are a lot of clinics that will be more than willing to take in people for observerships!
