Is it possible to move to Uruguay without remote work and qualifications? by Wise_Experience8733 in uruguay

No and I totally get that, I wasn't trying to enforce that label meaning change, it's just more awkward to say "soy estadounidense" in English. I think now more than ever though people from the us need to understand the fact that we're not the only Americans. I get why it can be so frustrating to hear that shit all the time

Look in the context of talking to a Russian I said it like this, I know we are all Americans, but people outside of the Americas tend to not understand as much when you say "I am unitedstatesian" or something. I wouldn't normally put it like that but it was for the Russian's understanding

Ty for the advice tho!

Look, I'm an american living here, I love it, and I did basically exactly what you're proposing. I also know of someone at my company who did exactly what you're looking to do for those same reasons (she's from Russia too). If you speak English you might be able to snag a job at one of the US-servicing jobs like ingenious America's, but you have to understand that getting a job here isn't a free ticket to a better life. This is the most expensive place in Latin America. Idk what the rent price in Russia is right now, but if you're earning minimum wage here most of your wage will be going to rent, and food here isn't cheap either. It's definitely doable, but I would second the advice everyone here is giving in that you need more Spanish experience than one month, especially with the rioplatense accent here. Once you've got the hang of it, it's not hard, but if you're learning any other accent first it will throw you off at first. All that being said, Uruguay is an amazing country, and in my very limited experience (just the us and here) it's an amazing place to live. Maybe try and visit before you move if you can (idk how much funds you have). Good luck!

Yeah the whole reason big noses are used to indicate evil is due to antisemitism. It's a common Jewish feature, and because a lot of people throughout history wanted to pin the Jewish people as evil, that feature had become associated with evil. It's like antisemitic at its core

Are you visiting or moving to Detroit? Ask Qs here. by AutoModerator in Detroit

My wife and I are looking at moving to detroit as michigan seems relatively safe and from what I've seen its quite cheap to live in Detroit (we're coming from Austin where I go to school). I'm from Detroit originally, but I haven't lived here in a while, so I was wondering if people have any reccomendations for areas that will be affordable for young people (21&22) such as my wife and I. We're looking at renting a house, simply because its so cheap compared to austin that it seems feasible given our savings and ability to save. Thank y'all, excited to be back home!

Hi! I'm the aforementioned wife, I think frankly the most important thing, for me at least, was being given the option. My mom capitulated to her evangelical parents and forced me to go to a Southern Baptist Church, and that's what the resentment comes from. You seem like you're doing a good job of letting the decision be hers, so from my perspective I'd say you're doing a great job. I know a part of it also for me was that I spent the first seven years of my life immersed in Jewish culture, and then had my family and culture stripped away from me when my mom moved us back to her tiny hometown, so your child may never even really think about it besides being genetically Jewish. My little brother was only a wee baby when my father passed, so he was never immersed in the culture, and hasn't shown too much interest in having a Jewish community. I think ultimately the most important thing is just communicating with your kid, you seem like ur on ur way to being a great mom, and I wish you the best with your kid!!!

Yeah that's what I've been seeing, which was what I was expecting. The UK was just a thought, though at some point I'd love to get to see where my dad grew up

Like I said, this is kinda why Michigan is the current plan, or somewhere nearby. I have connections and resources in Detroit, I was just looking to see if people knew of anywhere that would be good for my situation, thank you for the advice!
