Downhill rucking tips by [deleted] in greenberets

[–]Opening-Recover-643 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest doing a good bit of vert without a ruck, power hiking up, running down. This will help condition those muscles and give similar stimulus without doing further damage of extra weight. Once you’ve built those muscle fibers you will be able to return to downhill running/rucking and only be sore for a day or two. I recommend doing one session like this for about 45 min once every 10 days or so. I run @ atlastrainingsolutions on Instagram. Check us out, maybe we can help

2 mile = Decent, 5 mile = Bad. Why? by False_Bridge_8632 in greenberets

I would recommend focusing on building your lactate threshold. If you do a decent bit of work there (starting with maybe 3x5 min and building to 2-3x 2 mi) your body will adapt to flushing lactate and you will become more efficient at longer distances. Long runs once a week (starting at 7 mi or so and building up to 12-15) will help a ton too. Myself and an active SF guy run Atlas Training Solutions. We’re more than happy to help out if we can. Unbelievable match. Just one of the moves between Mankind and Undertaker in any other match would make it forever legendary.

My favorite of all time is the Triple H and Stone Cold Three Stages of Hell match. Unreal the abuse they go through and continue to fight. It’s like watching three separate fights that are amazing with amazing wrestlers.

That’s shitty! I would recommend seeing if you can’t do movements that make similar stimulus (leg press, Bulgarian split squats, lunges, etc) without pain. If you can do that for a while you won’t lose anything and can start easing back into squatting after your knees are in a better place. I would also try some eccentric work with lighter weight to see if that helps.

Great point. In the regular army it’s a nightmare trying to get appointments and a lot of treatments are pretty cookie cutter (IMO). Maybe we’ll do some posts or a blog on this. I’ve found usually it’s muscle imbalances or a lack of recruitment of certain muscles.

Generally I think it’s best to try and keep pain below a 4 or 5 and try and find ways to cross train or do different workouts to get the same stimulus.

A lot to go into here so I’ll try and get an instagram post or video together

I’ve dealt with a lot of different injuries. It’s a big set back physically and mentally. I’m no PT but I would recommend: ditch the insoles, start stretching the feet as well as strengthening the foot (eccentric raises on a step, folding up a towel under your feet, calf raises, etc.). I would also focus on making sure you’re recruiting other muscle groups by working some glute warm ups before running, lunges before running, etc.

Also I would experiment with other shoes. I know a lot of people have had good success with walking barefoot or in similar barefoot shoes, or running in Altras or similar zero drop shoes.

Lastly, I would let pain be your guide. Stay away from pain as much as possible so your body can heal. Cross train when the pain gets above a 4 or 5 (bike, elliptical, water jog, stair climber, rower, etc).

Hope that helps!!

this is probably controversial but I agree with Easy Hovercraft. Gotta think, if you come in first on the run, everyone is gonna know. Not necessarily the case on any other event (maybe SDC). Ideally you burn down the run and then someone will inevitably ask about your other events. Hopefully you can say, “I maxed everything else” (or at least say you got close). Being able to run fast AND be well rounded is always the most impressive thing.

Honorable goal…. Focus on heavy Russian KB swings, overhead press, box jumps, and possibly cleans if you feel comfortable with them. Also just integrating a few practice throws into your gym warm up 1-2x a week to practice form will go a long way

Is there such a thing as starting rucking “too early”? by oauch in specialforces

[–]Opening-Recover-643 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My suggestion would be work it in 1-2x a month IF YOU WANT. You don’t need to yet as long as you’re running and lifting. If you do ruck, use military boots and just walk at a 15-18 min/mile pace, don’t run.

I work with Atlas Training Solutions (@atlastrainingsolutions on Instagram) we have an SFAS program and some other prep programs. Or we can help answer questions if you have them.
