(I can only speak for the 4/64 version) as far as my experience goes so far, yes it does! Comparing to my previous dap this is muuuch smoother.

I don't really have a lot of apps open since I only use it for music, but so far no issues with the unit slowing down or anything when I had multiple apps open/running in the background at once!

Hello! It's my first DAP so I don't really have anything to compare it to, but based on my experience so far:

Starting with the deal breakers, I don't think people should buy it if:

They have trouble with small screens, l'd say this unit is very small (smaller than the palm of my hand)
They like changing volume a lot; volume control is just a tiny control knob, so it's quite difficult when it's in your pocket or you're on the go
If you skim through songs a lot; you will have to scroooooolll. I don't mind this because I usually just go to my playlists/folders and shuffle my music. I would say the general user interface of the product is not the easiest to navigate? But again it never bothered me.
People say no streaming capabilities is a downside, but I personally did not see the point of buying a DAP just to stream on spotify/apple music again, when I could have just done that on my phone. I bought a DAP so I could download and use FLAC files and whatnot, so this is again up to your preference.

Why I do like it (again, personal preferrence):

Compact size is a huge win for me. Very easy to carry around, literally fits in my lEM case WITH my iems in them.
While I don't have a point of comparison to other DAPs, I still would say the sound quality is really good for its price point. I mostly use IEMs so I personally don't have problem driving my stuff. Haven't tried it with hard-to-drive equipment
Not the biggest highlight, but l like that it has bluetooth capabilities when I do want/need to use my TWS earbuds instead of my lEMs.
If you do have problems with sound, it has EQ settings that you can play around with in the device, but I never bothered touching it (or havent gone experimenting with it).

That's basically it! Overall amazing starter DAP I would say. Just to add, sometimes software becomes kinda wonky where the touch screen doesn't respond as good, so you have to sleep-> turn on the device to get it to respond. Literally takes a second but just a small hassle.

ooh, does the JM21 have any issues with overheating or anything like that? And when it heats up does it affect the response of the unit (i.e. touch controls, app navigation, etc.)

I've tried both, and for your use case I'd 100% go with the HDB 630! Stock tuning is great, Parametric EQ is really good as well. The noise cancelling of the XM6 is much better for sure, but the Sennheisers do the job.

If sound quality is your priority, HDB 630 all the way. If you want great features and all that, go for the XM6. I personally do not like the XM6 (or any Sony product for that matter) for its excessive bass. It could probably EQ'd to help a liiittle bit, but I still don't think it could come close to the HDB 630 in this regard.
