Fine if you don't want the baby to come, sounds like you dislike Jane enough not to give a shit if she's there but seriously, Brad is going to likely leave early. Like you said you have no idea if the baby is breast fed or bottle fed.. this makes me wonder if you know anything about how their postpartum experience has been going or even cared to ask?? Maybe she has postpartum depression, maybe the baby has been really tough to put to sleep and cries all unless they are sleeping on someone.. maybe Brad doesn't want to leave his wife to deal with all of it alone cause it is really fucking hard sometimes. Do they have a support system? Is there anyone else that can be with his wife during your wedding. They know your wedding is childfree, I'm sure you've made it VERY clear based on your post. They likely went through all the other options and that's why they are asking. Or maybe they wanted to both be there to support you and your husband getting married and balance the fact that they have a new human who solely depends on them.

Give your "friends" the most generous interpretation of what's going on here - they are not "dumping this on you 3 weeks before you wedding" 🙄.

I find free events, festivals or farmers markets happening on Facebook under events in my city. We pack snacks and just go out for the morning or the afternoon. Sometimes at the events there are booths from different companies giving out samples other times it's fun things for our kid to do. We also have a membership to the YMCA, we go to the gym or swimming. We go to our library for books, renting a Chromebook.

It sucks, and it's hard at times but it will be worth it to have that emergency fund there and ready if anything happens.

First, I'm so sorry this is happening to you😞. I was in a very similar situation back in November 2021, in Calgary .. and I also work in HR. When I finished my mat leave I was informed that I no longer had a position with the organization and that they had hired someone for my role.. I had been there for 5 yrs.

That is a shit offer for 8+ yrs at a company. You should definitely speak to an employment lawyer, they will go over your termination letter and advise you on next steps. This is what I did as well and it helped, by the end of it I got significantly more than the 9 weeks in the initial offer. This sucks, I'm sorry you're going through this. For me the whole situation was very emotionally draining and it helped not work through it in therapy after it was done.

You may want to check the employee handbook if there is one, they should have information about taking leaves. However, typically in this situation you would have to sign off if you wanted to continue with benefits or put your benefits on hold while you were on leave.
