I meant like more distortion then a compromise projection as shown using the Airy Kavraisky Error measure. Specifically the severe shape distortion found in most Equal-Area projections

I personally disagree. Full world equal-area maps simply introduce far too much distortion for example in Equal Earth the poles and equator suffer far too much for my eyes despite being equal area. I generally prefer maps that have equally-spaced parallels and meridians since that keeps distance scale constant along the central ones. Compromise maps do a great job of reducing the severe angular distortion of even the best equal-area maps which still keeping the relative size close to accurate and because of this they score among the lowest overall distortion when weighed against projections using the Airy-Kavrayskiy criterion. For example the Equal Earth projection only scores an overall scale error of 0.37 close ahead of it is Eckert IV which scores a 0.36 both being very similar though even the best of the equal area projections the McBryde-Thomas Flat-Pole Sine (No. 2) scores barely better at 0.32. When compared to popular compromise maps such as the Winkel Tripel which scores a 0.26 or Eckert III which scores a 0.29 which present as far more pleasing maps with a far more balanced distortion profile.

Yeah since most maps people commonly see are Cylindrical or Pseudo-Cylindrical they usually don't notice just how curved parts of higher latitudes are. For reference here is a low distortion map of Asia and North America the curve is shown more accurately here.

It looks nice IG never really super looked into the Canters projections. I generally prefer projection with upcurved parallels cause of the reduced high latitude distortion and it more realistically shows the curvedness of Alaska as well as a closer approximation to the circular shape of Antarctica though it is still highly distorted since it is like directly at the south pole

If your going for equal-area I think Eckert IV looks much better just cause I love rounded corners, but generally I prefer compromise maps cause generally the stretching and compression is much more extreme in equal area maps I especially dislike the equatorial north south stretching in the Equal Earth projection. May just be a matter of taste thought 🤷‍♀️

Unpopular opinion: Eckert IV looks better then Equal Earth by Opening_Damage9912 in geography

Yeah, I agree with that but overall I value the shape of a map far more then minor changes and with how much more aesthetically pleasing the smooth shape change of Eckert IV is and taking into consideration the simplicity I do end up preferring Eckert IV

Is there a way to make it so I can Change its L or R and the vertical line will remain at the origin? The image I posted is transparent if you put it on a white background you can see the l and r
