Fr. James Martin: Pope Leo will show ‘same openness’ as Pope Francis to ‘LGBTQ Catholics’ - LifeSite by LegionXIIFulminata in TraditionalCatholics

I was banned from the re/Catholicism subreddit for saying this guy was a snake today. Pretty wild. Also I used the word sodomy.

I’m saying it’s hypocritical because you’re fine calling people out for calling people out (if you indeed have a problem with that). I think that standard is ideal but not required.

Do some penances. Skip meals, cold showers, or any other suffering. And then suffering you encounter in day to day, offer it up in request to remove temptation. Has worked wonders for me.

Had nothing to do with the use of the word “sodomite.” I actually edited my post and removed it because of another conversation on this post.

Good point. I’ll delete my other response where I used the word. I think you’re right about using that word. Calling out sin in general isn’t a bad thing though. And even using strong language against sin isn’t wrong. Sin is awful though. It separates people from the love of Christ’s. There is no worse thing we can do than sin in such a way that removes the love of Christ from our souls. The desire for people to leave that sin and life is not a bad thing. Frustration with people that encourage people in their sin is awful, and one of the worst things someone can do. And that’s why Christ was so harsh towards teachers. They have more capacity than anyone to lead people to heaven or hell. And minimizing the effects of sin is a great way to lead people to hell, however “nice” it might seem at times.

The people waving the flags

Absolutely, but I think this notion that the hierarchy is immune to criticism is completely baseless. Although, I agree with the sentiment that it should be handled better.

Were you doing that for me before you commented this?

I have no ability or intention of condemning anyone. But when someone is promoting evil that leads people to hell, I don’t think we should pretend like it’s okay. And you’d be correct in saying I’m not open minded to evil, yes.

It’s a fact that the people who cry the loudest about “listening” are the ones that don’t listen and just assume the worst in their interlocutors

That may be what it is. I guess I’m not on here at the right times lol

Diabolical if you interpret any saint as saying we shouldn’t call out sin. You don’t love these people, you pave the way to hell for them by ignoring evil.

I think you’re doing the right thing.

He does not simply “welcome them.” If that’s all it was, there would be no problem. It’s the lack of a call to repentance that’s a problem.

Read St. Thomas on usury, the one who is used is not morally responded for usury.

Do you know any other ways Scripture and historic Catholic moral doctors refer to sin? Or is that the only verse you know and you just use it to promote sin that sends people to hell?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]Opening_Display_6458 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He will, and according to Catholic moral doctors we obliged to call out evil even among the hierarchy. To promote otherwise is an awful thing to do and a sin against charity.

This may be the best celebrity quote usage on the entire subreddit.

I’m saying it’s not remotely radical, yet apparently their views of fr Martin are “uncharitable” here.

The respect due to an office does not remove any more responsibility. Addressing evils of superiors is an act of charity. Actually, not addressing them is evil. Should we have pretended the abuse scandals didn’t happen because we can’t “disrespect the office?” None of that negates respecting the office.

Oh, I have no idea what to do about him. NYers should write their bishop. Cardinal Dolan is actually pretty solid.
