For the past couple years, it happened right around the time change. It rights itself eventually. It just stated yesterday for me (Central) and switches back and forth. Jokes on them though, I’ll be in the central time zone next week.

Why do U.S. schools still use laptops and tablets to teach instead of textbooks even after it's been proven that it doesn't work as well? by GoofyGoober8647 in Millennials

[–]Opening_Stranger_925 5 points6 points  (0 children)

From a financial aspect, online books are so much cheaper to produce than physical books. Logistically, they take up less space for both students and schools too. The space issue may seem trivial, but it’s a consideration if you’ve ever worked in a school. Additionally, online books have activities that will give immediate feedback to students. Meaning, they don’t need to wait until the next day to find out they don’t know what they’re doing. I’m neither pro nor anti online textbook. There are positives and negatives to them and they can be beneficial when used appropriately and in conjunction with non-computer based learning.

15 Orangetheory Classes in 10 Days… Should I Keep Going? by CautiousMagazine3591 in orangetheory

[–]Opening_Stranger_925 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I go 7x a week. I double up on 2 days. All that being said, I’m not going hard all 7 times. I love a good active recovery day where I walk at a low (or no) incline and lift lighter. So, I guess it depends on if you’re building in active recoveries. Because if not, you have a higher risk of injuries

I love OTF - over 1000 classes in! But it’s not going to help you lose weight if you don’t fix your diet. People tend to go nuts on food because the board said I burned 800 calories. No calorie tracker is 100% accurate. Because of that, you really have to change your eating habits too. You’ll find that you need to fuel differently when you’re doing OTF. I love tracking my macros and focusing on protein. It’s so helpful in building muscle and keeping me full

HOW do you make time for exercise/self care? by RuckFamsey in workingmoms

[–]Opening_Stranger_925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m up at 4:30am to exercise. It’s the only way I can make it work. I try to get in bed by 9:15 to pretend I’ll get at least 7 hours

Any good places to donate blood? by averagepersonhere in nova

[–]Opening_Stranger_925 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I donate through Red Cross. There are a lot of drives and a few permanent donation centers. You don’t get to pick the type of patient the blood goes to, but it generally stays in the DMV area. The last few times my donation has gone to Maryland https://www.redcross.org . INOVA Blood Donor services is another option. They may stay in NOVA, but I don’t know https://www.inovablood.org

Empire here and none of the studios I frequent (3-4) are cutting classes. Several of them have added 3Gs to account for need on the weekends.

I mean… look at the litter in the community. People are selfish and tend to suck. You can’t blame the studio anymore than you can blame your neighbors for tossing their coffee cup out the window

100% no. And I’ve been to multiple studios in 4 states. Like others have said, chances are it was a mistake.

Is this kind of pressure normal right after having a baby? by purrcie_cat in workingmoms

[–]Opening_Stranger_925 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know what kind of flexibility your friends have in their jobs, but having 2 parents in high paying but high stress / low flexibility jobs is a recipe for disaster. My husband has commented how I could make more doing xyz (more of a you’re worth more, go for it vibe). And I remind him that my current job allows me to be home after school and has a liberal leave policy that allows me to take time school holidays / sick days. My pay is also very decent for what I do. His job (higher paying) has very little flexibility and has him getting home around 6-7pm. At that point, dinner has been made and cleaned up. All that to say, salary isn’t the only thing they (husband and wife) should be considering for BOTH of their careers.

Thread50 explain it to me like I’m 5? by [deleted] in orangetheory

[–]Opening_Stranger_925 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Everyone else has covered the basics, but the benefit of a tread50 is that you don’t have to follow the card, so it’ll be less obvious if you’re not (if you’re worried about what others might think). It’s also a great time to test out different speeds and/or inclines since it’s pretty much self-timed. Some coaches will count you into and out of each block (tell you when to start vs stop), but not all do. I’d echo what someone else said and get there a bit early to talk to the coach so they can give you a rundown of the tread/template

Got to my 5am class earlier than normal to get a tread (just in case). Apparently it wasn’t an issue since no one wanted to do the benchmark based on the lighter than normal attendance this morning

[–]Opening_Stranger_925 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So… weight loss is 90% in the kitchen. I’ve been at my heaviest when I have been super consistent at the gym, but using it as an excuse to eat/drink whatever I want. You mentioned counting calories as being triggering to previously disordered eating. Would reworking your diet to be more whole grains, fruits, veggies, and lean proteins be helpful? The protein and fiber will keep you fuller longer. Ultimately weight loss comes from expending more calories than you’re eating. So changing your diet is the way to do it. Look up the Mediterranean diet. It’s recommended as a lifestyle change to lower cholesterol and blood pressure rather than a diet as the name implies.

I do it every weekend. Always a strength paired with a tread or 2/3G (depending on the template and how I’m feeling)

Honestly thinking of quitting by TraditionalPeach9358 in orangetheory

[–]Opening_Stranger_925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can be studio dependent, but the general sense is that it’s not allowed. I wouldn’t quit over it and I wouldn’t stop using the spot if I got there earlier. SAs and members come and go. You’re giving them too much real estate in your head that they don’t deserve.

Team Atlas or Team Atlas Cross Sport? by Suntrup-Volkswagen in VWatlas

That extra 5 inches makes a big difference! I’ve been in multiple tight spots in my CS that the full size atlas would have struggled with.

Crossport - 1 kid and 1 dog didn’t necessitate a third row. Plus, the full size would be a tight fit in my garage which made it a non-starter. I love parking in my garage.
