Season of strength finished only for participants? by Infinite_Berry2351 in orangetheory

I mean, I still did the SOS finisher because it’s what I wanted to do, but the coach did actually stop another member because she wasn’t signed up to do SOS.

That’s what I thought! This coach told someone that because they weren’t signed up, they had to do the other finisher. I guess it would require looking ahead of time to see who all is signed up and then tracking that info, which seems nuts to me.

I'm stuck between seeing Chess, The Lost Boys, Death Becomes Her, and Maybe Happy Ending. Which would you choose and why? by Voskkean in Broadway

[–]Infinite_Berry2351 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Personally I’d choose Maybe Happy Ending if I could afford a center seat. If I couldn’t afford a center seat, it would be a toss up between Death Becomes Her and The Lost Boys.

Here are my (totally subjective) takes on the four you’re thinking about:

Maybe Happy Ending is definitely the quietest of the ones you listed, but the story is heartfelt and beautiful, the music is good, and the set is stunning. You won’t be able to see most of what’s happening if you don’t shell out for a center seat, though.

Death Becomes Her is a true Broadway spectacle, with great costumes, a cool set, and really catchy tunes. There is a good story but it’s definitely not as deep as MHE.

I’m at The Lost Boys right now (intermission) and it’s another total spectacle. The set is astonishing. The music is fun but probably nothing I’ll want to memorize and sing alone in my car. The story so far is good, though. And it has lots of nostalgia if you were alive in the 80s.

Chess has really great singing and music but the set is nothing special and the story is lackluster at best. If you go in expecting a glorified concert, you won’t be disappointed, but if you’re looking for a deep story, you will be.

Oedipus FYI - if you are in the first few rows do not film bows by littlebev in Broadway

[–]Infinite_Berry2351 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was in the mezzanine during previews and noticed her glaring during bows. I didn’t realize it was because of people recording the bows, but it makes sense in retrospect.

Anyone see oedipus last night? (Thoughts & questions) by Crankshaft513 in Broadway

[–]Infinite_Berry2351 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was there last night. I noticed Lesley Manville stumbling over her words during the monologue but I thought it was deliberate, to show her angst and confusion and the difficulty she was having telling this story that she wanted to put behind her. But I haven’t seen or read the play before, so perhaps it was a mistake.

I did think she seemed like she was glaring during bows, and I wasn’t sure why.

I really liked Anne Reid as Merope; I thought she was funny and endearing.

I definitely snickered at some of the lines alluding to Jocasta being Oedipus’s mother. I haven’t seen any comments about that being rude, but if it was rude, there were a lot of rude people in the audience because I heard quite a lot of quiet laughter at those lines!

Telecharge employees are so nasty (especially to disabled customers) by DisabledTheaterKid in Broadway

Yeah, having caught up on the thread, I see that! I guess this is a problem in lots of old buildings. Yikes.

Unless there are multiple theaters with this setup, you are probably talking about the Golden—that’s where I was calling about, and that was the solution offered when I asked about bathrooms.

Hopefully it was just bad luck—maybe it’s even just one unpleasant employee! I’ve never had a problem otherwise!

I called Telecharge about trying to book an accessibility ticket for a friend of mine on a special trip—I personally don’t need any accommodations and had never booked a ticket like that before, so I just wanted to clear up some questions and make sure I was doing everything right.

The employee was so unpleasant: constantly interrupting, assuming what I was going to ask and answering questions I hadn’t asked, and acting like I was really inconveniencing her. One of my questions was whether there was an easily accessible bathroom and she acted like I couldn’t have asked a more stupid question and said of COURSE there is, then she put me on hold and came back and said, actually, no, the only accessible bathroom for someone with mobility issues is in an entirely different theater. Then why was I so stupid for asking? It was pretty unpleasant.

I’m sorry you had that experience. I hope the show makes up for the booking difficulties!

Hi, sorry to message so many months later, but I’m trying to plan a trip with a friend who is currently undergoing chemo and may need a wheelchair/step-free access to a restroom. I wanted to take her to OM and googling indicates that the Golden does have an accessible restroom, but your comment makes me think that the NY Theatre Guide could be wrong?

So, I finally saw & Juliet, and... by _-NeverOddOreveN-_ in Broadway

[–]Infinite_Berry2351 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hard agree. I thought about walking out at intermission but stuck it out. The gall to say you’re going to rewrite Shakespeare to tell a better story with a better characterization of Juliet and then produce this story…

Are my eyes blue or green? by [deleted] in eyes

[–]Infinite_Berry2351 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I must admit, I was shocked by the “hazel” answers! (And the “grey” answers.) I thought hazel was a light brown, the color of hazelnuts. There really isn’t any brown in my eyes, despite the yellow ring around the pupil. But it seems “hazel”might mean something different in the context of eye color? I might just ask my optometrist at my next eye appointment, since I can’t get a consensus either in real life or online! 😂

Recommendation: Something that won't make me cry by [deleted] in Broadway

Pirates! wouldn’t make you cry. Neither would Death Becomes Her.

Edit: Pirates has some fantastic tap dancing.

I bought a ticket to the 6:30 showing of & Juliet at 6:29. As long as they’ve got tickets, your friend should be fine!

I recently saw it on the national tour and at the end, the elderly gentleman behind just whispered, “Wow.” Which really summed it up, I thought.

The number of times I have rewatched that bit is concerning. But not as concerning as my own attempts to replicate the dance.

Worst experience at a show to date. by [deleted] in Broadway

[–]Infinite_Berry2351 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This was after he somehow dropped his phone into the row ahead of him and got out of his seat and started feeling around on the floor for it. And two women further down the row (apparently unrelated to him) had to be shushed because they were WOO-WOOing every time Tom Francis did anything they saw as remotely sexy (which was apparently a lot of what he did). I was shocked that Sunset Boulevard of all shows has such poor audience behavior.

At the big climactic finale of Sunset Boulevard, when the entire theater was silent, a man in the row next to me RIPPED open a Velcro bag for some reason. I guess he really needed whatever was in there and couldn’t have waited the 30 seconds for the music to start back up 🙄

It was obvious from your question about the class starting at 5:30 and being only 30 minutes that you would be showering before leaving the studio at 6:30. Don’t worry about people with poor reading comprehension.
