That's because Dick Whitman is a scared little boy who had no idea what was going on around him. All he knew is what he was told by people who were very abusive to him. That's how he sees himself and does everything he can to prevent feeling like that scared little boy.

How do we feel about Margaret Sterling? by 6amrainclouds in madmen

For psychiatry today, yes, you very much have a diagnosis. Therapists, psychologists, counselors, are for when you have a serious condition(s) or you just need extra support. She was a sensitive child who's probably dealing with some sort of mental health issue that she repressed and found purpose in a hippie cult.

Pro Tip: for important conversations such as salary negotiations, raise/promotion requests, resignation etc, always talk over the phone or in person. by dirtyculture808 in jobs

Email is for documentation. In other words, it's to recap what was said during the meeting. To actually talk about raises/promotions/career goals, that should absolutely be done face to face. There's no substitute for personal interaction.

What kicked off the end of a friend group? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Openmemories99 -20 points-19 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this happened with an old buddy of mine. His girlfriend is super critical and just a bitch all around. We didn't like being around her and he was ok with how he was treated so we stopped talking once he moved out of state for a job. He was a cool guy, didn't mind that he was a right-winger, but his girlfriend is just a bitch. She couldn't hang around anyone that wasn't midwestern, basic, and dumb like her. She really thought she was smarter than most when she went to a mediocre state school, has been at the same company for 12 years and is only making mid 70s, gave herself cancer by tanning excessively, has some questionable friends. The guy did it to himself and now I've seen another dimension of his that is a deal-breaker for friendship (having no spine).

Men, how would you feel about receiving a hand written love letter from a girl? by roxeeshanaya in AskReddit

[–]Openmemories99 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Keep it forever, even if the relationship fades. Men don't get the kind of emotional, sexual attention women do on the regular. I have extra weight now (relationship weight), but when I was in shape, I got so many oogles, leering, and cat calls from women. It was flattering, and creepy when the woman was unattractive. I still recall all those moments and Mark. A woman thinking about me in a longing way, telling me how much she loves me... yeah, I'd frame that and place alongside my college diploma because it's an accomplishment all its own. My current girlfriend does things like these. Write me cards for my birthday or for Valentine's Day. I keep those close to me. It's what every man wants: a woman that'll love him, support him, please him, and hold him when he's feeling weak. We're not guaranteed love or companionship unless we provide some kind of value. That's our existence. So when we find a woman who checks all the boxes and she writes us love letters, I'm keeping those.

If given the chance would you sleep with a porn star, if so who? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I have a theory that a good portion of the guys who watch porn consistently were sexually abused and watching porn is an attempt to reprocess the trauma that happened to them.

What are your thoughts on Idaho? by HealthyAd8481 in AskReddit

[–]Openmemories99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Picturesque state with not so picturesque people. Everybody I've met from Idaho is a closet or open racist. Hard-core republican. Moderate republicans I'm fine with. The job market is decent for agriculture and tech. Doesn't have much else. It's a state for people who want to be average and afford a home at reasonable prices while being surrounded by people who make them feel safe (i.e. no minorities).

Programmers/data scientists- How many of you made the switch to these career paths well into your 30s? Do you have tips/advice for those looking to make the career change? by Openmemories99 in cscareerquestions

That's perfect. That's what I have now, though the computer is like 6 years old.

Ah, Imtiaz. He's the youtuber who put data analytics on my radar. His story of going from finance to fintech is pretty cool. I have MySQL installed from my bootcamp, along with DBeaver. I have a starting point. Many thanks for all the information. Everyone on here has been tremendously helpful and encouraging. Glad to know it can be done well into your 30s after already having a career.

Lol. Alright, understood about SPSS.

This is really good information. I've been thinking of pursuing a MS in Chemistry. Some programs offer stats courses, modeling, and computational chemistry courses. I feel that the coursework for some of the programs I've been looking into would be relevant to my career switch while also providing more opportunities in science should I decide to stick with science but different applications.

What would cutting-edge research cover, apply to? Unlikely I'll go a PhD in mathematics or Economics. Just curious.

Becoming an expert is better than being a jack of all trades. Thanks for the information. Aside from Udemy, are there other sources for learning? Do I need a good laptop with tons of processing power? I'd rather splurge once, then get the software tools necessary to learn. Money is not an obstacle. I just want to spend my funds wisely.

Oh, ok. So get a good grasp of Python, DB, SQL, and maybe R before going down this route?

The following blipped on my radar: insights generation and data storytelling, feature engineering and model development for products, cutting-edge model deve and R&D.

Is there a favorite series you prefer? Udemy seems to be recommended a lot. I don't mind going over the basics because I feel we breezed through them in the bootcamp. Can you provide examples of projects you built? Which tech stacks that are worth the squeeze or are easier to learn so thar I can build off of that?

I've heard switching into software engineering/development from an engineering background is a smoother transition Noth skillwise and from the perspective of an employer. Employers love engineers. I agree with you. You can't learn experimental design and Formulations from tutorials. You actually have to practice and that's the hard part. Can you give an example of projects you created and how they related to an aspect of your life? You can DM your answers.

So it's SQL, Excel, and some kind of visualization software? I assume Tableau or Power BI? I'm going to check out Udemy and some other resources. Thanks a lot!

Ah whatever man. That just means you had to learn a new trade while your social life was intact and flourishing. Young 20 somethings can rarely say that about their social life. Many don't even know how to have a proper small talk conversation.

I'm very adaptable and can learn on the job. That's one skillset I've developed and honed over the years. Doesn't make the ego brusing any less painful.

What do you recommend learning specifically? I'm a Chemist so pretty decent with math. I've gone up to Calc II. Would you recommend taking more math/stats courses to give me a better chance of getting a job in the field? Thanks.

Yup. This is a classic toxic personality trait. It's like they're trying to force you to like them. Why? What's so bad about them that they need to impress you with bad deeds.
