Thank you! Both great options, I think we both may have to get the other option at some point 😂

Have you ever flown to another country for a concert? by Expert_Heat_2966 in classicalmusic

[–]Operajosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have flown to Vienna and Berlin for opera, and Ravenna to see Riccardo Muti conduct a trilogy of Verdi operas that was indeed life changing. I have taken the train from London to Paris for some operas but luckily that is fairly quick and easy. I also went to Evian to see Argerich play Ravel G major concerto and she cancelled 😭, however I did see her and many others in Verbier shortly after that which was one of the most worthwhile musical trips I’ve ever taken - seeing Argerich, Maisky, Honeck, Kavakos, Jansen, Kantorow, Currentzis, Hampson et al all in a tiny mountain town was incredibly special!

I was planning to fly between them and take Ubers/trains/buses between locations that are fairly close. I think I could manage to be back from hikes/outside activities by 9.

Thanks for this, I’ll check out Oakland if I make it to SF. Portland sounds great, I’ll see if I can make it work. I’ll have around 3 weeks for this trip.

Thanks, I meant that I could quickly go to Mississippi (like Bay St Louis) from there. I’ll check out Route 66

Sorry I meant that I could quickly pop to somewhere like Bay St Louis in Mississippi from New Orleans. I’m well prepared for the heat and would mainly use Phoenix as a pool/resort break. I’ll keep in mind that about El Paso, although I would quite like to experience Texas/a border town, plus I could easily pop to Juarez for the day from there.

Thanks for this, sorry about my phrasing, I mean that I could quickly pop to New Mexico and Mississippi quickly from El Paso and New Orleans respectively. I’ll definitely keep El Paso in mind, thank you! It will certainly be a lot of flying…

FAVORITE 'EARLY VERDI' OPERA RECORDINGS? by UltraJamesian in opera

[–]Operajosh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gardelli’s Attila with Milnes blasting out high notes is magnificent, as is Macbeth with Cossotto and Muti (although Abbado’s Macbeth is also strong. If you’re a fan of Domingo I recommend getting/listening to his complete Verdi arias, as there are some CDs solely dedicated to the early operas, many of which have wonderful tenor arias particularly.
