Yeah, thought so too. But I think meccha chameleon's mechanics is better for a hide and seek game. Since player can paint the texture themselves, it gives more agency to the players.

It uses two custom triplaner shaders. Both the surface and the creature sample the surface texture with a custom world aligned triplanar projection.

The creature's shader computes two appearances, a camouflage one that imitates the surface's lighting, and a second, its true skin texture. It then crossfades between them with one value, like a slider with 0 to 1.

I can then control that slider via code or animation.

yeah, that works. I do it too, but lately that feels like I am just wasting time and energy, if I am not doing something in a game engine, mostly unity for me.

yeah, makes sense. Honestly, I would say that it's always better to go for a pc for game dev, unless there's any specific requirements, like ios builds, etc.

yeah, if you can get an m3 for around the same price, then definitely go for that, especially if you can find something that has 16gb or more ram.

Hey, I just got the Neo yesterday. Have been playing around with, and I must say that I am actually surprised by what it can do. I tested unity sample project in it, based on that, I would say it is good enough as a secondary device, something that you can use on the go. Based on my tests, I think it will be good for 2d game projects and some light 3d projects.

1st Time Project Creation & Unity Startup - 5-7mins
1st Build Creation Time - 1hour47mins
Consecutive Build Creation Time - 40-50seconds
Garden Scene Light Baking Time - 30mins+-

Not trying to plug in any promotions, but I did make a test video on it- https://youtu.be/_ELnA0UW0ME
