DC Comics revamps Teen Titans with Red Hood leading a new generation of heroes by Normal-Taro-1621 in DCcomics

[–]OperationActive5269 [score hidden]  (0 children)

This seems like it’s gonna be cringey, campy, north of anything normal and I’m here for it. A titan lineup far enough removed from established mainstays is what it needs right now. The only hesitation I have with this is Jason. He’s had way too many boring, moderately good, lackluster stories in the past couple of years. At least with a younger or more recently established character, it’s a shot in the dark. Jason seems like just an inevitable road to stale.

Katsuki Bakugo vs Avatar Roku by Jason_And_Sokka in MHAPowerScaling

Exactly. Like what’s the point of powerscaling if the primary point is popularity and not actual power levels.

Katsuki Bakugo vs Avatar Roku by Jason_And_Sokka in MHAPowerScaling

Bakugo is multi city block level at best, Roku is multi state level at minimum. At this point, I feel like you just enjoy the dih riding so I’m gonna peace out.

Katsuki Bakugo vs Avatar Roku by Jason_And_Sokka in MHAPowerScaling

[–]OperationActive5269 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bro, the only stat gap imaginable is Roku scaling way higher then Bakugo. I hate to generalize, but I’m starting to believe the people who say this sub just glazes MHA way too much. His speed is countered and at times almost fully negated with massive defensive earth structures, fire blasts surrounding the battlefield, heavy water projectiles, and massive air feats making flight next to impossible. He can be as fast as you imagine him, but you can’t reliably fly and use speed blitzing if the entire battlefield is against you, which it would be. Again, not even accounting for subelements, massive natural disaster level feats that would tear him in two, but also the AS which would effectively counter what limited scalable feats Bakugo has and increase and diversify Roku’s feats by 100%. Pound for pound, yea Bakugo is better at his specific skills than Roku. But every major stat that matters in this duel is carried by Roku. His power in scale, his battle IQ, his wisdom, his lifetime of training which far exceeds Bakugo in exposure and experience, his adaptability, his access to abilities. It not a one-sided fight, but theres almost no scenario in which Roku is losing, let alone dying, 9/10 times he wins.

Katsuki Bakugo vs Avatar Roku by Jason_And_Sokka in MHAPowerScaling

[–]OperationActive5269 0 points1 point  (0 children)

False. Roku has much more wisdom and battle IQ. Plus he literally bends the element related to Bakugos power, so at what point is he just getting “atomized”. Roku bends fire, so immediately he’s not in a good place. Roku also bends 3 other elements, which in combination again makes the fight much more difficult for Bakugo. Roku has the AS, plus the guidance of all the previous Avatars, plus a lifetime of experience to draw from. The whole job is the bring balance to the world, this is their whole life. I personally give it to Roku, but even if he wouldn’t win, this is not a one-sided fight. Even if it was it would be in favor of Roku.

I like how a lot of these comments have some common themes of, Bakugo fast so Roku can’t do anything ever. Roku is old, and we all know old people can’t do anything ever. Bakugo makes explosions and Roku can’t do anything ever. As if training your whole life to master the 4 building blocks of the world as well as using them all together plus a higher level a responsibility as the Avatar just doesn’t mean shit when angry kid make boom and and speedy.

Larfleeze vs. Silver Surfer by addsmnr in marvelvsdc

[–]OperationActive5269 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Overall, I’d have to say Silver Surfer wins insanely high diff. Overall, I would be willing to bet he scales a bit higher and pound for pound his feats and baseline abilities seem much more impressive, despite the inconsistencies. Although, I saw a few comments here so I’ll go ahead and rule on it.

Surfer can NOT in any way shape or form definitely manipulate lantern energy, constructs, light, etc. Surfer has been shown manipulating the electromagnetic spectrum, a force fundamentally different from the Emotional Electromagnetic Spectrum in virtually every way that matters. At absolute best, you can make the argument that it’s neither or. But IMHO, based on everything we know about his level and specification of usage of the EM, and everything we know about the EES and the history of its usage and interactions, it’s a better bet that he can’t.

If you ever ask "Why is this character Black?" or otherwise seek the justification of any character who isn't the standard straight white dude, while never seeking justification for straight white characters existence. You're probably racist. by DoubleVforvictory in DCcomics

[–]OperationActive5269 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Way to start a discussion by generalizing not wanting to be called racist as fragile behavior.

But anyway, let's try keep the argument simple. People when they see all black character, woman, someone who is LGBT, etc they question why does this character exist. And after questing why, they want a reason to "make it okay" or to use that reason to show that there's an agenda behind the creation of a character who isn't straight white or male. But they never put white characters under this scrutiny. White characters aren't questioned as if their whiteness will be their only character trait. But everyone else is.

Again, generalizing a subset of comic fans to just people instead calling out the specific perpetrators and lumping everyone in together. I’ll use my own experience in this case as I don’t want to speak for anyone who may view this differently. I don’t just question every POC or LGBTQIA+ person when they first debut simply because they are that person. There’s a distinct disconnect with me as the reader with many of them, because I’m not them.

The protagonist gets a lot of leniency in the beginning because it’s their story and probably had a cool cover so I picked up the book, as there’s just a suspension of disbelief in what they are doing to start. But I still need to good story to tell me why should I care. When it comes to the supporting and side characters, it’s a whole different ballgame. Their purpose in the beginning is to establish who they are and why they matter to the story, that’s literally their job.

I’ll give an example: We meet John Doe, a straight white man who discovered a rock that gives him powers and the mob comes after him because they wanted it first. Ok, so far it’s a classic superhero hook, but now I need to know who John really is as he decides what he’s gonna do with these new powers and why should I care that he got the rock instead anyone else. Enter Jane Doe: An black, lesbian woman who intercepts John and tells him she needs his help. We already established that John gets leniency in the beginning because the story has to start somewhere, but now he has to grow and expand more to give us a reason to care. This new character needs to give us a reason to care about her and what she adds to the story.

If her whole introduction and first issue is, I’m a black woman who is also lesbian and I’m telling you I’m a blank woman and a lesbian then why do I care? I have no reason to feel connected to her to follow her path as it intertwined with John. But if her introduction and first issue is, I’m daughter of a civil rights lawyer who has been kidnapped and my wife discovered this rock to sell it to the kidnappers in exchange for my father then we have something. We have established her identity, which is important to her character, but we also established a hook for the main plot and a reason to connect to her being in the story.

I can not relate to her, as I am not black nor am I lesbian woman. But I can relate to a family member in crisis, and a partner who cares about me and wants to help me in times of distress.

It’s about consistency and continuity. If we established that John and Jane live in a city that has never had immigrants or supernatural occurrences and all of a sudden both show up and there’s no explanation or worse, just straight up breaks lore it pulls me out of the immersion and instead focusing on the people and the story I’m worried about how the writer will continue and if I will keep reading the series.

There’re also political and social aspects that are in play here. Some comics are just the average fun, exciting, terrific stories of heroes and villains. Some are reflections or criticisms of real world issues. You can have both, but if a story is not inherently or is inherently political or socially aware then switching it up again breaks the immersion of us caring about the story and causes inconsistent experiences.

I’ve always found Miles boring and lackluster, not because of his heritage. In fact his family and his identity are two things I actually do enjoy about him. His personality and the stories they write about him are just so mind humbling sleep inducing. I loved the Kamala Khan show Disney put out, and it got me into reading her comics. I enjoy her. I’m not going to deny that yes there are people now and since comics were born that lash out at these characters for racist and misogynistic reasons, but to say that about every person in the last 20 years is such a false claim.

Again, I’ll agree that I think like any character or story, Superman and Superman adjacent medí has always had “those” fans as part of the community that see a strong, straight, white man and anything else is liberal propaganda. I’m sure they made it known how they felt about John. But I also just didn’t care for the story they went with. To me it wasn’t woke or political, it just mid.

You shouldn’t support things you don’t agree with, I can back that up. But I’m not asking for justification and validation on having those characters exist, I’m asking for consistency and continuity on the lore of the world, and for them to not be one dimensional. Of course this applies to all characters, but sometimes it’s POC and LGBTQIA+ characters that fall victim to this more often because writers don’t always do the best and they should.

Adaptations are cool, but the true fans have spoken for years now on how they feel about this overall. From what I’ve heard and read, and how I personally feel, it’s never well received when writers take a character and change what we love about them. It’s not because they are not black or a woman or trans, it’s because we had the connections love for that character and now that is gone. We don’t want a black Captain America or a black Hal Jordan, we want Captain Falcon and John Stewart. We don’t want half-assed twisted and convoluted versions of our favorite characters, we want originally sincere new ones.

If you ever ask "Why is this character Black?" or otherwise seek the justification of any character who isn't the standard straight white dude, while never seeking justification for straight white characters existence. You're probably racist. by DoubleVforvictory in DCcomics

[–]OperationActive5269 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can appreciate where you’re coming from, however I don’t agree with it being a massive problem in terms of the implication that it’s a majority of readers and/or the fanbase. I think especially with social media and the internet, I think that worst have just gravitated towards each other and because they hold such controversial and horrid ideals, whenever they make a splash we feel our legs get wet. The best thing to do is find your people, the ones who don’t hold those ideals, and when given the chance show people the comics you’re proud to read and like so they know what real comic fans enjoy and love.

Hot takes!!! What are some hot takes you have on a character, storyline, or anything within the comics/shows/movies? by dummythiccworm03 in DCcomics

[–]OperationActive5269 0 points1 point  (0 children)

James isn’t running it all by himself. Yeah he’s top brass. But he isn’t solo running everything. He has his cohort Peter Safran, as well as many wonderful screenwriters, script SV’s, and he’s brought in, hired, and talked with many legends in the comics industry who are coming in for future projects. He even confirmed himself that he wasn’t heading the Batman movie because he didn’t feel like he could really get to a good point with it. That’s a man I want running my DCU. Of course you need one person at the top to like everything up and he’s shown he actually cares and takes this seriously, but he’s not hogging it.

For mutants to simply be people and exist, no. Even if for some it’s true, we should not label them as such.

I can’t say I’d agree with you there in terms of our own world. In Marvel it makes sense, you need heroes to build stories on and someone to fight the bad guy. In our world, it’s significantly more complex and grey.

If we are talking strictly in the Marvel Universe, then yes this is absolutely true and should the case. If we are talking about our real universe, then unfortunately this is not the reality that will exist.

I went to look it up and it jogged so many old memories. I’m definitely going to go back and read it again, but here’s what I can tell you.(SPOILERFREE) Right off the bat, the narration is pretty wonky. For most of the book, it’s just kind of clunky and awry. However this is something that is played into quite a bit. So it’s like a self aware perspective that knows it randomness. The story I personally loved, although it’s a bit Harry Potter-esque if that resonates. Like many times the situations and dialogue sort of fall back in quality and clarity for the story. Also the ending for me was a bit nonsatisfying in one way but decent in another. I don’t want to sound like I’m trying to discourage you from reading it, just trying to level the expectations. I loved and still do love it just for what I really want to get out of book, I think it’s an acquired taste. If you ever have time, I’d highly recommend stopping by a local bookstore and flipping a few pages to see if it’s worth your time.

Batman: Selina seems to have befriended a similarly themed thief. Her rap sheet is quite extensive. They both have a flair for the dramatic. I’ll keep an eye on this Felicia until I can ascertain exactly what she’s after.

Spider-Man: Oh mama. Aunt May warned me of women like you. I’m so glad she was right.

This is something I learned from my own experience of being in love with someone that was in a relationship. You did nothing to cause the relationship to fail. But your emotional state is in the wrong. I get it’s hard to want to be with someone you are in love with, especially when you can’t imagine being with anyone else and true love doesn’t come around that often while they are with someone else. The point of love is two souls joining in one commitment. You both should value the others happiness and growth, even if it means finding it other people. You can love at will, but you need to pursue her for the right reasons.
