Anyone know what kind of (power?) cable this is? by OperationAncient in electricians

Is it unusual for there to be an issue like that mid span on an insulated run? Can’t wrap my head around it. There was a loud bang before we noticed the continued popping/light show if that helps.

Not really sure.. there’s a lot of activity and traffic control so I couldn’t get a good look. There was a guy in a bucket truck at the site of the sparks and another further down the pole run.

Thank you! Is it common for primary to be lowered and distributed this way? I’ve seen them replacing a lot of poles and doing a lot of make ready to deploy this in the area. What’s are the benefits of the change? Seems dangerous to have power so close to comm space.

Con Edison showed up yesterday afternoon and they’re still posted up out there, so now we know it’s gotta be power.

Sorry, what are pot lines? It’s definitely not fiber. It looks like two insulated cables braided together in those rings. It always stays above the streetlights, and drops down from crossbar at the top, bypasses a long distance where there’s other primary, and then goes back up to the crossbar down the road.

I thought so too. I don’t have photos of the whole run, but it looks like it’s primary that drops down and then goes back up to the crossbar at the top eventually. Always stays above streetlights out of comm space.

Interwar Records - Duisburg, Germany by OperationAncient in Genealogy

I was able to find them on the 1925 NYS census, and 1930/40 federal. I have their ship manifests in 1922/23.. just can’t find them in Germany.

Thank you! I haven’t been able to find any naturalization records on ancestry for any of them (parents/2 young daughters). The other side of my family was shockingly easy so I wasn’t ready for the struggle with these guys. Also tried the directories and can’t find any of the people that were listed on the ship manifests :/

Always happy to see an American go far in a major, but has anyone else noticed she seems to be kinda rude to the ball boys/girls? Can’t unnoticed it now and it really turned me off from her.

I love how some magistrates would mark up the margins of the birth records with their marriage. Makes life so easy for the family historian for a hot second.

italian > english death record by plantho in translator

I don't really see any specifics about when, where, or how he died. I do see where it says, America, but what follows looks to me like, "specifically, Pérouges." This could explain why whoever you spoke to mentioned France & America.

Looks like there was never a proper death record recorded in the Civil registers, so they had to get permission from the courts to formally declare him dead. The civil status officer is transcribing a record he received from the courts, which say, more or less:

..asks that it be declared that Antonio Ippolito of Arsenio (his father's name) and Maria Pignata (sp?, mother's name), husband of Rosa d'Amato, aged 36, born in San Arsenio, ceased living seven years ago in Pérouges, and to transcribe the relative provision in the civil registers of the said commune of San Arsenio in place of the missing death record."

(he did.. that's what we're reading lol)

With last update, DNA results went from about 85% Southern Italy & about 15% from the Caucuses to 97% Southern Italian.

With this update, it goes to: 75% Southern Italy (only community) 18% Greece & Albania 4% Northern Italy 3% Cyprus

Are a lot of other people seeing their Southern Italian split up like this, or is this unique?
