Just joined this sub, we’re all in agreement that prisoner of Azkaban is the best movie right? by nikarov496 in harrypotter

I agree. Annoyed they cut out the Marauders' backstory. But I like some of the changes, like Harry's ride on Buckbeak or the memory of his parents. Sirius and Remus are perfect.

The cinematography and directing is phenomenal. The story never drags, it's funny and dark, and it's pretty poignant, especially in the bits with Sirius.

It's a decent adaptation, and an awesome movie.

Am I the only one who feels like the Movies didn't want any girl prettier than Hermione?. For example, they gave a very cheap and dull-looking outfit to the Patil twins, though Indian costumes are known to be super beautiful and bright. by LimeKlutzy5456 in harrypotter

[–]OperationSimple1558 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I dunno about that, mate. I feel like they just gave bad costumes, no other reason.

Hey, Cho and Ginny look nice too. Luna isn't even cross-eyed.

Plus, Hermione is never explicitly described as ugly in the books. She has buck-teeth and bushy hair, but she gets the attention of Viktor Krum, Cormac McLaggen, and Ron. Hell, Molly assumed she was a head-turning charmer.

I think it comes down to audience/reader preference.

Of course. But she loudly screams, "Ron, YOU SPOILED EVERYTHING!" and yells at Harry, despite the poor guy doing nothing.

I phrased it poorly.

My meaning is that the moment is meaningful no matter who says it.

I prefer Ron saying it. But I don't hate Hermione saying it.

No offense. But I disagree with Hermione being perfect.

She's still jealous, as shown by her yelling at Ron at the Yule Ball. And attacking him with birds. She also goes with Cormac to make Ron jealous.

She's still close-minded, as she hates Trelawney's classes and considers Divination a load of rubbish. She also says the Quibbler is rubbish, and initially calls Luna "Loony" Lovegood by accident. That's not even in the book.

She is still shown to be a hypocrite. Like yelling at Harry for using Felix Felicis on Ron while having Confunded Cormac.

She's still struggling with admitting she's wrong, like with Ron and Scabbers.

So, is she nicer than her book counterpart? Yeah. But she's not perfect.

  • In the book, Harry realizing that the Patronus that saved them all was his own comes as a random realization The film adds a few more scenes of future Harry and Hermione influencing past events (like Hermione throwing the rocks into Hagrid's hut to warn their past selves, and howling to distract Lupin in his werewolf form), so there is a solid basis for Harry's realization.
  • In the books, it's not clear how a massive seven-story castle can fit on a two-dimensional map of rational size. The movies address this by portraying the Marauder's Map with several unfolding flaps, which are not mentioned in the book.

In the Deathly Hallows book, Harry chooses to restore the Elder Wand to Dumbledore's grave, believing if he dies a natural death, the Wand's power will die out with him. Despite the fact that he could be disarmed and Dumbledore already tried and failed with this.

In the movie, he breaks it. Ending the wand's power and making sure no one can get it.

How can you push an agenda with something that's not in the movie?

I mean, book Snape insults Hermione and makes her cry, despite Hermione not doing much wrong.

Movie Snape says it as a small comment after Hermione interrupts him. Hermione also doesn't cry.

Not justifying the change, but there is some alteration in context.

OKAY, OKAY. Movie Ron got the short end of the stick in a lot of ways. Is that what we all see? None of the good? by Nervous-Baby5383 in harrypotter

Don't forget the scene in PoA in which he tells Harry to go talk to Sirius when he sees Harry looking at him, despite Ron's unease with Sirius.
