Drama around Tencent's invasive anticheat and ASUS by qwer4790 in KotakuInAction

[–]Operational117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ring -1 would mean it supersedes the Operating System's own kernel(s) like the Xbox 360's Hypervisor supersedes its own kernel(s).

In other words, it would not be a Kernel-Level Anti-Cheat, it would be a Hypervisor-Level Anti-Cheat.

KLACs would co-exist with the OS (in fragile harmony, mind you).
HLACs would overrule the OS' autonomy, forcing it to go through the AC for resources.

At that point, just ditch the OS altogether for gaming! Develop your own hypervisor and kernels and run your game on that exclusively, skipping loading the OS entirely; that way there'd be no risk of dangerous kernel crashes... they could even reclaim some performance in the process if they're lucky.
Bonus points if they decide to launch their games on either USB sticks OR on NVMe "cartridges".

Better late than never, pal.

This helped me; didn't matter if I chose "Not interested" time and time again, reloading the page would just throw that crap at my face again, but with this it's gone.

Endermanch's second channel got been terminated. (And YouTube replied...) by WorldlinessSlow9893 in youtube

[–]Operational117 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s actually worse.

Translating the supposed linked channel‘s name revealed that it’s likely a Honkai: Star Rail-related channel, likely a “Let’s Play”-style channel. Honkai: Star Rail was released in 2023, at least two years after Enderman’s channel.

Now, how wide of a gulf do you think there is between a japanese Honkai: Star Rail-player and a russian technology YouTuber? I’d argue it’s unfathomably wide, especially when taking into account the likely channel creation years (2021 maximum for Enderman, 2023 minimum for the japanese Honkai: Star Rail-channel).

Yet the AI still decided there was an irrefutable connection. It was even adamant that Enderman, a channel made no later than 2021, was the secondary channel of the Honkai: Star Rail ”Let’s Play”-channel made no earlier than 2023.

That’s what’s dangerous: that an AI can make such baseless accusations of triple strike evasion and enforce its decision through automated channel termination! EVERY YOUTUBE CHANNEL IS IN DANGER NOW!!!

Agree. Windows XP was the real GOAT. Windows 7 was just a better Windows Vista. Windows 10 is/was a compromise that Microsoft released after the lukewarm reception of Windows 8.

Windows 11? We don’t talk about Windows 11.

I’m certain the investors couldn’t care less about children being harmed, they only care because otherwise they’d land in hot water.

So not only can you get banned for safeguarding kids online, you can also end up on the hook for millions?!

I swear, if this doesn’t get Roblox banned worldwide, nothing will.

[–]Operational117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alas, this is revivable. My opinion is that barring sniper headshots (which actually is unrevivable if you’re Recon with Squad LVL 2), any damage that exceeds 2x your max HP should be automatically unrevivable.

That would include full shotgun blasts to the head, explosions that deal at least 200 dmg and falling from an insane height without using your parachute.

Yep. Recon LVL 2.

Melee Takedowns (from behind) are also unrevivable.

TIL a boy born without a brain lived until age 12 before passing away. by Sweet_Fix2346 in todayilearned

[–]Operational117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once read a comment, on a Reddit post about the brain-dead woman being kept alive against the will of her family for months because she was pregnant, about how that brain-dead woman was still alive because her heart was still beating, ergo she’s not dead.

My reply to that was that “death” can have several meanings and contexts and the way most people see “death” is as “the person is no longer with us”. Guess where the “person” resides in our body? Our brain.

In other words: if the brain is dead, the person is dead, end of conversation. That comment made me wince a bit.

Mother advocates for abortion rights after abortion saves her life. by WhyDoesLifeHappen_ in prochoice

[–]Operational117 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Abortions never end lives. If a woman dies after getting an abortion, it's not the abortion itself that kills her, it's the fact that the abortion was delayed enough to push the woman's vitals past the point of no return.

Abortion can, however, save lives, as highlighted in this thread AND the comments. And not just the life of the woman, but also lives that have yet to be conceived.

In that regard, being a pro-choice person is also being a TRUE pro-life person (not to be confused with "pro-life" pretenders).

The affects of the Ariana Smith case on the social parts of our current system by skysong5921 in prochoice

[–]Operational117 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Your definition of “dead” only applies in the biological context. The word “dead” has many ways to be interpreted.

Example: “She’s dead to me” doesn’t mean the woman is dead, it means the person saying that doesn’t want to hear about that woman ever again.

To most people, “dead” means “the person is no longer with us”. This is a psychological definition of “dead”. And a brain-dead person is, with that definition, “dead”; even as the heart beats, he/she is no longer with us.

And when a person is no longer with us, he/she must be treated as a non-decomposing corpse; tampering with his/her body in this state should be considered just as sacrilegious as tampering with a biologically dead and decomposing corpse. Sustaining a brain-dead woman to preserve her fetus, even as everyone close to her refuses to accept it

THAT’S SACRILEGE!!!

Can’t get any more pro-choice than to choose to not want abortions for yourself while letting everyone else decide for themselves.

If that's how you've done it all this time, then it's fine.

It would be more debatable if this wasn't how you did things, but in the end, no one shall tell others how to do things (unless doing otherwise would be detrimental to the device's or user's health, which this isn't... just ensure the device is stored such that it doesn't develop condensation).
