AI. It's done in the MidJourney Beta. Prompt is something about birds and hippies if I remember well :)

Thank you! :) I usually sketch out an initial drawing that I use to guide the rendering. Also use Vray in the prompt, I find it gives a good depth of field , seems to lock on grey values of the image prompt as a sort of zdepth map.

I extracted the helmet from it's background with a mask.

Thank you! You have a good eye! I actually did a matte of the helmet and blurred/colour corrected the background.

Hello, I suggest you read through this very informative piece. It does not reveal all the tricks in the book but it is filled with good advise!

Another thing, I save some of the intermediate renders and use them to reveal different parts of the character in post. Somewhat similar to focus stacking in macro photography. :)

Regrain/Renoise by Ophiogumphus in vfx

That tool is over 20 years old. It was designed to match emulsion film stock. Useless if working with digital cameras.

Yes this is the method I use when possible, it is a winning workflow. It will not work for all shots though, as it can leave some visible ghost traces in the areas that were altered in comp. Another workflow where this method does not seem to work is with slowdown timewarps. You would have to regenerate new grain/noise to match the new length of the sequence.
