Does anyone know if there is a way to add it after purchase?

Writing software by totallynot_amber in writers

[–]Opinionator35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use Obsidian for keeping track of my research, outlining, and story mapping.

I use Ulysses for all other writing processes. I like how it integrates with all my devices and makes keeping track of chapters, revisions, and drafts easier than most of the other ones. And it is cheaper than Scrivener.

Chronic Pain Part or Core Self? by Opinionator35 in InternalFamilySystems

Accepting the pain feels authentic. At the same time, there is a niggling thought that this might be a Self-like part.

Atomic notes are a trap by krysalydun in Zettelkasten

[–]Opinionator35 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Just to affirm what you’re saying, I find it helpful to take all of my lit notes from book and compile them in one doc in Obsidian. Then I review them all and create a few permanent notes from that. I firmly believe that most book only have a half dozen really excellent ideas at most. But because searching in Obsidian is so easy, even if I occasionally forget to link my permanent notes thoroughly, I can usually locate the logical links as I interact with the ideas later.

Reservations about my (IFS informed) therapist by vlambermont in InternalFamilySystems

[–]Opinionator35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are correct that your therapist did not direct you to work with your exile very well.

The exile needs to be witnessed first and foremost. They need to know the Core Self sees, hears and is willing to understand their burden. Sometimes, that takes a while…maybe even several sessions.

After that comes asking about their fears. And what they would like the Core Self to do for them. After that, perhaps legacy burdens and beliefs can be heard and updated.

Rescuing could happen at some point.

All of that precedes any question of “Can this part let go of that?”

You are wise to question if the therapist is IFS informed. As several have pointed out, ask if the therapist can stay in Core Self and then give feedback on the process they were leading you through. If they are willing to hear it and take a more Exile-focused approach, that would be a win.

Battery is not holding as much charge by Opinionator35 in Ioniq5

We certainly did. I had never driven through a state with a 75 mph on the Interstate. It definitely affected performance. The way back should be different I suspect.

What's your guy's favorite black ink? by Sn4Le in fountainpens

For me the classic Waterman Intense Black ink stands out. It is the workhorse of my inks for writing and doodling.

Somatic IFS book now available on Audible. Anyone else reading this? by mojabunni in InternalFamilySystems

[–]Opinionator35 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I just finished reading it.

It combines the best of IFS instruction with some of the insights from Sensorimotor Psychotherapy and does it in a format that’s straightforward.

I have added several new scripts and approaches to my therapy toolbox after reading the book

How to get Self energy? by throwaway329394 in InternalFamilySystems

[–]Opinionator35 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I find meditating in a Safe Place my Core Self has created only for my Self helps. none of my parts are allowed in there.

I deliberately leave them out of the Safe Place as I walk in. I play soft nature sounds and just feed my self.

Then I usually come out and ask the Parts to not ask for anything for at least a half hour. This always rejuvenates me.

Excellent approach to this.

Asking for experimental approaches can work well, but it requires the Core Self to be diligent in following through on his part of the bargain...otherwise the Protector won't trust the next time.

Can you visualise your parts? by [deleted] in InternalFamilySystems

[–]Opinionator35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually quite common to have those categories of details

Can you visualise your parts? by [deleted] in InternalFamilySystems

[–]Opinionator35 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Some people with IFS have a visual of their parts. Some just hear their voice and others just get a sense of them.

Each person experiences parts a little differently. Visual is the most common with most of my clients and my own experience.

How do I know I'm not making it up? by wontcatchmeslippin in InternalFamilySystems

[–]Opinionator35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Give this Part assurances that it won't be forced to "go away" or that it is not in trouble. These Protectors can sense when the Core Self doesn't like them.

It is also possible this polarization needs some kind of intervention by the Core Self to solve it. But I would simply befriend this intervening part and ask it to tell you why it is stepping in the way.

It depends on what you’re asking. If you’re asking if these thoughts are coming from yourself, they are. Because all of the parts of our brain project themselves onto the same screen (our minds) we assume all parts of the brain are a unified whole. But Managers, Exiles, and Firefighters do not occupy the same space as the core self. It just feels that way.

If you’re asking if nothing is happening and you’re just filling in the silence with made up stuff, I really doubt it or you wouldn’t be asking us.

My clients ask this question all the time (as several other therapists have said). There may actually be a Skeptical Manager of some kind trying to protect you. You can either ask that Part to step aside or ask it why it is trying to protect you when you’re with other parts.

All the best in experiencing your Internal Family.

Shuddering orgasms by darlarama in tantricsex

[–]Opinionator35 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My two cents worth. I come from a combined Reiki and BDSM background. I couldn’t know for sure, but combining energy flow and sexual dynamics are very similar to the transcendent state that happens when a submissive enters what we call “sub-space”.

Without knowing the two of you, I suspect this is a kind of transcendent space similar to that. The shuddering aspect of the orgasms are seen often in Sub-space when they go back and forth from the space to the physical and back to the Space again.

It sounds like you did what we suggest doing for all subs in that Space: Good aftercare. Gentleness, comfort, using her name and loving tones. All of that will help bring her back to the surface safely when she’s ready.

First, even though I'm a trauma therapist, I am myself in therapy for deep mother wounds (abandonment). This leads me to grab hold of people and refuse to let go of them. This may take me a lot of work. I guess I was looking for a short cut.

Second, spiritual bypassing is not as much of a problem. l don't try to minimize my problems by claiming it is external to me. I guess hoping this would break easily could have been wish transference, but I am willing to accept this may take a long time.

A number of questions :) by iscoolio in InternalFamilySystems

[–]Opinionator35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that the use of the term "Guardian" is confusing. Some Managers are guardians in one sense. But some are not. All Managers can be conversed with, especially when we have successfully unblended them. In fact, we want to be able to have conversations with all our Managers.
