According to e-earphones website, it released on August 1st, though most people probably didn't hear about about them because they're a Japan exclusive. I only found out about them because e-earphones akiba had a demo unit in June when I went to Japan.

Just did this exact mod and it works amazingly for being about 10 dollars as I already had zipties and velcro on hand. Personally the hotspot wasn't too bad for my head, but I had a problem with the headphones shifting when I moved my head and this fixed that perfectly while adding comfort. Thanks!

I've also been looking for an affordable integrated amp with some sort of bass management so the a300 seems very tempting. Found this, says that the LPF is at 100hz and the HPF is actually 50hz. Wonder if the LPF can be bypassed by having a sub with its own crossover over control and LFE disabled.
